Message from the Principal

Dear Langley Families,

We had a short but very busy week as we began the fourth quarter. Seeing our students back in full force was terrific, as the influx of illness seems to have diminished.

We have noticed a significant increase in students arriving late for our first bell. School begins at 8:10. If you have a student with a parking pass or drop your student off in the Kiss and Ride each morning, I would appreciate a conversation about adjusting home departure times by five minutes to ensure safe and timely arrival at school. Thank you for your assistance.

Have a wonderful week,

Mr. Stroud

Student Attendance Reporting

If you know your child will be absent on Friday, April 11, please submit the full-day absence as soon as possible. You can enter the absence in SIS before the date. Additionally, if your child needs to leave early, please email LangleyHSAttendance@fcps.edu in advance.

  • All Day Absences: The Attendance feature in ParentVUE is the FCPS secure web solution for reporting all day absences.

Partial Absence: To report late arrivals, early dismissals, or to update already submitted attendance, please email  LangleyHSAttendance@fcps.edu.

How to Report an Absence Through ParentVUE

1

Please send a note with the student, instructing them to take it directly to the attendance office. They will receive a pass to be excused from class at the time you’ve indicated. It is the student's responsibility to leave class promptly at the stated time.

If your student does not have a note, you may sign in and go to the attendance office to check them out in person. Please understand that it may take up to 30 minutes for the check-out process if it is unexpected.

Please note we are unable to accommodate last-minute early releases after 2:30 p.m.

Sophomore Parent Forum

The final Sophomore Class forum - Meet Jennifer: Empowering Our Kids with Guidance on Substance Abuse - will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025 in the Lecture Hall.  Come and meet Jennifer Maddox-Byrd, Langley’s Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist.  Learn about her role as a confidential counselor advising both students and parents.  She will address parental concerns, stigmas, protective factors, resources and how to best talk to your student about alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.  Socialize with other Class of 2027 parents starting at 9:00am.  The program will begin at 9:30am.

Please park in the bus loop directly behind the school and enter through door 9.

April is the Month of the Military Child!

This month-long celebration of FCPS military-connected students raises awareness and recognizes the resilience of military-connected youth and thanks them for their service as part of a military family. April 9th is designated as “Purple Up!” Day and everyone is encouraged to wear purple (the combination of all the military service branch colors) to celebrate and thank our military-connected students for their service. On April 9th, Langley HS will recognize our military connected students in the Lecture Hall during Saxon Time with a Chic Fil A brunch. Parents are welcome too.  Parents and students should RSVP to Julie Zimmerman Hohl, LHS Family Liaison at jbzimmerman@fcps.edu if you can attend.
