Principal's Message
Hello Bruin Families,
Today is National Librarian Day and I want to express our sincere gratitude for our truly outstanding library team: Sarah, Carolyn, Diane, and Mike. They have cultivated such an engaging and welcoming environment for our students, fostering a love of reading and learning within our library. Our students are fortunate to have such a place in our building.
Next week is National Assistant Principals Week and we could not do our jobs without our 13 amazing Assistant Principals and Directors. Whether in the Subschools, the Main Office, Student Activities, or Student Services, our APs and Directors give tirelessly of their time and energy supporting our students and our staff. We look forward to celebrating them.
Go Bruins!

Military-Connected Family Support
FCPS welcomes all of our new and returning military-connected families throughout the year! Whether your family is moving permanently to the school district or living here for a short time, our schools and support staff welcome you and will be able to assist with your transition into and/or out of our district.
Visit the FCPS Military Families webpage and sign up to receive the Military Families newsletter. Follow FCPS Military Families accounts on Facebook and Instagram for support and resources throughout the year. If you have any questions, please email the FCPS Family and School Partnerships team.
Purple Up! Day
To show our support for all our military-connected families, we are inviting our school community to “Purple Up!” on Wednesday, April 9, for military children. Why purple? Purple symbolizes all branches of the military as a combination of Army green, Marine Corps red, and Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force and Space Force blue.

New Information and Important Reminders
Spring Testing
Spring Testing is quickly approaching. All important testing information and the testing calendar can be found on the Lake Braddock Testing Website. Please note important dates your student may be testing and make every attempt to avoid testing interruptions.
If you have specific questions about testing, please reach out to your student’s counselor or subject specific teacher.
Bruin Inclusion Bistro
Earlier today, our Special Education-Adaptive Curriculum students offered lunch in the Bruin Inclusion Bistro. Students served as hostesses, waiters, and servers to serve a lunch of salad, pizza, dessert, and a drink. They had menus, took our orders, and served the food and drink with style. Kudos to our Teachers and Instructional Assistants for their teaching and support preparing our students for the real world.

Parent Tech Talk
5 WAYS TO BE SMARTER THAN THE SMARTPHONE!
1. Be a parent and a resource. Establish clear guidelines, including time limits and consequences for inappropriate behavior, but be open so your child will come to you with any problems.
2. Set up smart security. Smartphones today include a variety of security mechanisms including fingerprint scans, facial recognition and password locks. Enable these to protect access to the phone as well as apps with sensitive data.
3. Update the operating system. New versions often contain important security fixes
4. Approve apps before they are downloaded. Make sure you understand their capabilities and approve their content.
5. Understand location services. GPS features are useful when using maps, but you’ll want to disable location-tagging when your child posts anything online.

Excellence Is at a Crossroads
Fairfax County residents believe in the value of a strong public school system. Residents live here because of the excellence of Fairfax County Public Schools, even our community members with grown children. Excellence in FCPS comes from its people — dedicated teachers and support staff who make sure that our students are ready to learn. Today, that excellence is at a crossroads.
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will finalize the budget on Tuesday, May 6, and the current advertised budget underfunds FCPS by $150 million.
Now is the time. Do we want continued excellence, or are we ready to consider cuts to important programs that we have come to expect from FCPS?
