We are thrilled to announce that KJMS Science Olympiad team competed at the state-level tournament at the University of Virginia last Saturday 29th April with outstanding results! The team demonstrated exceptional teamwork and brought home an impressive 23 medals.
Overall, KJMS earned 6th place in the state tournament!
We extend our appreciation to Ms. Verma for sponsoring the team. That concludes this year's Science Olympiad season—congratulations to all participants for their hard work, commitment, and passion for science!
Spring break should be a time for fun, not hunger. But for food-insecure families, school closures mean missing essential meals. You can help by donating to our Spring Into Action fundraiser, giving teens and families the support they need while school is out. Every contribution makes a difference—donate today!

To show our support for all our military-connected families, we are inviting our school community to “Purple Up!” on Wednesday, April 9, for military children. Why purple? Purple symbolizes all branches of the military as a combination of Army green, Marine Corps red, and Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force and Space Force blue.

FCPS School Counseling Services is hosting a Virtual Military Night on Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. This event is designed for both middle school and high school students and their families who are interested in learning more about military pathways and opportunities. All military branches (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, and Space Force) will participate. Information about enlistment, service academies, and ROTC pathways will be shared.
This project will support military-connected students with a deployed parent or sometimes both parents by donating items (see flier below for possible donations) to build deployment support kits. These kits will offer comfort and resources to help these military-connected youth navigate the challenges of separation and keep them connected to their loved ones.
Fairfax County Public School - Family and School Partnerships - FCPS Military Families
Our military-connected students sacrifice so much, especially when a parent is away. It is our hope that these contributions will make a meaningful difference in a child’s life during this difficult time.
Donations may be dropped off in the Main Office or the Clinic from April 3 through April 30, 2025.
FCPS welcomes all of our new and returning military-connected families throughout the year! Whether your family is moving permanently to the school district or living here for a short time, our schools and support staff welcome you and will be able to assist with your transition into and/or out of our district.
Visit the FCPS Military Families webpage and sign up to receive the Military Families newsletter. Follow FCPS Military Families accounts on Facebook and Instagram for support and resources throughout the year. If you have any questions, please email the FCPS Family and School Partnerships team.
Katherine Johnson Families, please consider stocking snacks and drinks for our amazing staff. One way to contribute is by using our KJMS Amazon Wishlist. Our Amazon Wishlist is quick, easy, and set-up for the items to be delivered directly to the school. As a reminder, you are always welcome to bring other items (prepackaged snacks, waters, etc.) to the Main Office as donations. We thank you in advance for your generosity and partnership.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Kara Payne at 703-934-2401.

FCPS would like to hear from all families on the possibility of adjusting school start times across the division. Please check your email for a survey link from Fairfax County Public Schools. It was also sent to staff as well as to students in grades 5-12. The confidential survey will be open through Saturday, April 12.
Fairfax County residents believe in the value of a strong public school system. Residents live here because of the excellence of Fairfax County Public Schools, even our community members with grown children. Excellence in FCPS comes from its people — dedicated teachers and support staff who make sure that our students are ready to learn. Today, that excellence is at a crossroads.
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will finalize the budget on Tuesday, May 6, and the current advertised budget underfunds FCPS by $150 million.
Now is the time. Do we want continued excellence, or are we ready to consider cuts to important programs that we have come to expect from FCPS?
