Dear London Towne Family,

What a truly wonderful week it has been at London Towne! Our budding artists shone brightly at the Westfield Pyramid Art Show! It was a delight to see so many of our lions' creative works displayed, showcasing their talent and also the work of our former lions and how they have blossomed into such skilled artists throughout their middle school and high school careers. We are incredibly proud of their artistic accomplishments and the hard work they put into their pieces. Their art brought joy and inspiration to all who attended.

We were also honored to host two members of the Fairfax County School Board this week, Ms. Dixit and Mr. Moon. They got to see the new literacy curriculum, Benchmark Advance and Benchmark Express, in action. Benchmark offers a multi-faceted approach, including explicit instruction in foundational skills, diverse text types, and strategies for comprehension and critical thinking, all while fostering active learning and collaboration. They also enjoyed learning about animals and their habitats as students presented their projects in our Spanish Immersion 1st grade classroom.

Our first round of this quarter’s "Donuts with Grown-Ups" event was a resounding success! It was heartwarming to see so many families come together to enjoy a sweet treat and connect with our school community. The smiles and laughter shared were truly priceless. Thank you to everyone who participated and made it such a memorable morning. As a reminder, on Friday, April 11, 2025 at 7:45am, we invite families with last names beginning with letters M-Z.  If you plan on attending, we do encourage you to walk or carpool if possible. If driving and parking, please do not block crosswalks, handicap curb access, or park in "No Parking" zones.

This week has been a testament to the vibrant learning environment we cultivate at London Towne Elementary. We are committed to fostering creativity, academic excellence, and a strong sense of community.

Thank you for your continued support in making our school a place where every child can thrive!

Sincerely,

🦁 Shele Banford, Principal

🦁🦁 Lucy Zamora and Jordan Moore, Assistant Principals

  2025-26 Kindergarten Registration

Attending kindergarten provides children with an opportunity to learn and practice the essential social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives. Eligible children can also be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps us prepare and ensure we have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.

We recognize that parents are their children’s first teachers. Explore the resources on FCPS’ School Readiness and Transition to Kindergarten webpage for ways to help ensure your child starts kindergarten with confidence.

Families should prepare for registration by gathering documents and completing forms on the FCPS kindergarten registration webpage. FCPS offers support and resources for all families to help with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For support in other languages, visit the kindergarten registration webpage.

A strong start to school is Goal 1 of the FCPS2023-30 Strategic Plan

There’s an easy five-step process for parents wanting to register their child for kindergarten:

  1. Determine eligibility.
  2. Identify your local school.
  3. Gather documents.
  4. Fill out forms.
  5. Schedule an appointment.

Read more about the registration process. For additional information, please contact Carolyn Licastro, our school registrar, at 703-227-5403.

 Immunization Info:  Rising 7th Graders

As required by the Code of Virginia, parents or legal guardians need to provide proof of immunizations for their child to attend public school. All students entering seventh grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations:

  • Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap) given at age 7 or older.
  • Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) given at age 10 or older.
  • A complete series of 2 doses of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
    • As a parent/guardian, you may decide that your child not receive the HPV vaccination. The school does not require documentation if a parent/guardian elects for their student not to receive the HPV vaccination.

ACTION REQUIRED: Please provide one of the following immunization documents to our Student Information Assistant (SIA)/Registrar, Carolyn Licastro, as soon as possible:

  1. An immunization record showing that your child has received at least one dose of each of the required immunizations listed above. Families can request immunization records free of charge through the Virginia Immunization Information System (VIIS), a statewide registry system. If your child was immunized outside Virginia, you can get records from those states’ systems.
  2. Submit your child’s immunization record through ParentVUE using the Online Verification/Update (OVU) Packet.
  3. A note from a healthcare provider stating the date the vaccination(s) was given.
  4. A healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption.
  5.  A notarized Commonwealth of Virginia, Certificate of Religious Exemption.

Parents/guardians are encouraged to plan ahead by scheduling an appointment with their child’s health care provider now to avoid the rush this summer. If your child does not have a health care provider, please visit the FCPS Immunizations Resource page to find out where to get an immunization.

Please review the Virginia Department of Health Information Packet for more information on rising 7th grade immunization requirements.
