Dear Freedom Hill Families,
A big thank you to our collaborative, supportive community and staff for all of the assistance last week. Along with the usual busy week of learning, we also held Kindergarten Orientation, Spring Picture Day, and Culture & Heritage Day. Each was a special occasion, and we are grateful for everyone's involvement to make them a success.
Please help us prepare for the new school year by encouraging any new neighbors or friends to begin their registration process now for the next school year. When we have advanced notice of students who will be joining Freedom Hill at any grade level, this helps ensure that we can have the most staffing available for our school. Thank you!
We are also sharing in advance the 2025-26 FCPS School Calendar below in our dates section. We know that many like to have this printed as early as possible. Dates for any potential early release days have not yet been determined.
Lastly, we are celebrating two appreciation weeks this week. Please join us in celebrating and appreciating Mr. Scesney, Ms. Sims, and Ms. Trott. It is National Assistant Principals Week, and National Library Week. We are truly fortunate to have these three incredible individuals in such important positions in our school making a positive impact each day!
Have a great week,
In partnership,
Nicholas Zapadka, Principal

~Oscar Wilde

- Would you say that fairness is important to you?
- What would you do if you saw someone being unfair?
🧸 Kindergarten Registration: It’s as Easy as 1-2-3…
Online registration for the 2025-26 school year is open. Parents / caregivers may register their children online for kindergarten through 12th grade. Learn how to begin the online registration process. When registering, parents / caregivers will need to create or log in to an existing SIS ParentVUE account.
There’s an easy five-step process for parents wanting to register their child for kindergarten:
- Determine eligibility.
- Identify your local school.
- Gather documents.
- Fill out forms.
- Schedule an appointment at Freedom Hill with Ms. Sujo at (703) 506-7800 or email at ssujoromero@fcps.edu
After the appointment at Freedom Hill (the student and one guardian must be present), the student and family will be invited to attend our Kindergarten Orientation on April 1, 2025. Read more about the registration process. For additional information, please contact Ms. Sujo with the contact information above.
Staff Appreciation Week in May will be here before you know it! We know that our community always appreciates our classroom teachers. Did you know that there are so many other individuals behind the scenes who make Freedom Hill a welcoming place? Instructional Assistants, Specialists, Office Staff, Food Service Workers, and more all contribute with warmth and positivity each day. We would like to honor them with a gift card giveaway.
We’re collecting small denomination gift cards ($5, $10, or $20) to local favorites like Target, Chipotle, Starbucks, Panera, and more.
These gift cards will be used as fun incentives and prizes to recognize and celebrate the hard work and dedication of our amazing teachers and staff.
If you’d like to contribute, please drop off your gift cards at the front office any time during school hours.
Registration will be available soon for summer camps offered by Fairfax County Public Schools for all students. Career and Technical Education (CTE) camps and Institute for the Arts (IFTA) camps will be held in July at Lake Braddock Secondary School from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bus transportation will be available from select FCPS middle and high schools. Registration begins for these programs on Monday, March 10th, and ends Friday, June 6th.
Tech Adventure Camp (TAC) is a week-long exploratory camp designed to allow current K-5 students to explore activities in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math), culinary arts, health, trades, and business and marketing areas. Watch this video about CTE camps.
E-IFTA is a weekly arts camp for students in grades 2-5 who love to sing, dance, act, perform, make, and create. Students take part in four daily classes related to dance, music, theater, and visual art. They work with FCPS fine arts teachers who create fun and engaging classes.
