Dear Dragons,
April is Action April! As an IB World School, we encourage our students to engage with personal, local, and global issues by taking responsible, responsive, and reflective action for positive change. Each day, students will have a challenge, and at the end of the week, they will reflect as a class on their experiences.
On a larger scale, we are coming together for a community action initiative by collecting donations for the SLHS pantry. We invite you to contribute non-perishable food items, canned goods, feminine products, and hygiene supplies to support those in need. Donations will be accepted until April 25th when our school will participate in the Stuff the Bus event with our pyramid. Dogwood always steps up because we not only contribute generously but also do so with heart. A donation box will be available in the main office.
We are also grateful for our amazing volunteers who help keep our school beautiful. Two of our dedicated parents are leading an effort to clean up and prepare our garden beds. Mark your calendars for April 26th and join us in refreshing our gardens. Many hands make light work, and we welcome all volunteers, especially those with strong arms, to help us transform our garden into a beautiful space for our school community. More details can be found in the flyer below.
Thank you for joining us in making a difference this month. We look forward to seeing the impact we can create together.
With appreciation,
Kate Beckner
Proud Principal

Throughout the month of April, we will engage in Action April in which our students will be presented with different ways to take action every day. ⏰ Coming Soon: School Start Times Survey
Last year, FCPS held community forums and surveyed middle school families regarding middle school start times. Now, we would like to hear from all staff and families on the possibility of adjusting school start times across the division. The goal remains to begin middle school at 8 a.m. or later at the start of the 2026-27 school year.
On April 1, a survey link will be sent by email to staff, parents/caregivers, and students in grades 5-12. The confidential survey will be open for two weeks and will be available in multiple languages.
