Kings Park ES: Ten Points of Pride

At Kings Park Elementary School, we take pride in the unique programs, dedicated staff, and strong sense of community that make our school a special place to learn and grow. Each week, we'll highlight one of our "10 Points of Pride" to celebrate what makes Kings Park exceptional!

Advanced and Inclusive Academics
As the only pre-K through 3rd-grade school in FCPS, Kings Park offers a robust Advanced Academic Program with leveled services, including a local level IV cluster-based site and Young Scholars. Our inclusive classrooms serve all students, including those in preschool programs like the Family and Early Childhood Education Program, Early Childhood Class-Based, and Preschool Autism classrooms. We nurture the potential of every student!

Stay tuned next week for another Point of Pride that makes Kings Park Elementary School an amazing place to learn and grow!

purpleup

“Purple Up!” on Wednesday, April 9th

April is the Month of the Military Child, a time to recognize children from military families for their contributions and sacrifices. We recognize that children serve too! Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is proud to have over 13,500 military-connected youth in our student body. We appreciate the varied life experiences they bring to our school community and recognize their strength and resilience. To show our support for military-connected youth, we are inviting all Fairfax County students, families, school employees, and community members to “Purple Up!” on April 9. Why purple? Purple symbolizes all branches of the military as a combination of Army green, Marine Corps red, and Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force and Space Force blue. We extend our appreciation for the service of all children from military families and celebrate them by wearing purple to say, “Thank You!” Whether or not you know any military-connected youth, please take a moment to recognize and honor them by wearing purple on Wednesday April 9.

Family Input for Class Placements 2025-2026

As we begin to plan for the 2025-2026 school year, we are inviting your input. Creating class assignments requires careful consideration and the involvement of many perspectives. We know a good teacher-student match and a productive mix of children are ingredients for success. Should you have additional information about your specific child that school staff may not know, particularly regarding learning style and classroom environment; we ask that you please complete the Family Input Form no later than Monday, May 2, 2025. If you have more than one child attending KPES, please complete one form per child.

We ask that you do not request specific teachers or friendship pairings and keep the information shared about your child and the type of learning environment you feel would be the most productive for him/her/them. We assure you that with or without a form, each child’s strengths and needs are considered. As in the past, families will receive class placement notification just prior to school starting.

FCPS Bus Stop Cameras

Cameras Installed on School Bus Stop Arms Cameras have been installed on the stop arms of 50 FCPS school buses. These cameras will be used to identify drivers who pass stopped school buses while children are entering and exiting the bus (called a “stop arm violation”).

Warnings for drivers will begin on Wednesday, April 9. After a 30-day warning period, citations will begin to be issued on Monday, May 12.

According to Virginia law, drivers must stop for stopped school buses with flashing red lights on and their stop signs extended. Motorists should stop when approaching from any direction (unless there is a barrier or median separating their lane from where the bus is stopped). They should remain stopped until everyone is clear and the bus is moving.

We appreciate our law enforcement partners for working with us to improve road safety and reduce accidents. Read more information about the stop arm cameras and all of the ways that we work with our county partners to keep students safe on their way to and from school.
