Eid Mubarak to those in our Muslim community celebrating! In Islam, Eid al-Fitr is a 3-day festival to mark the end of Ramadan. Muslims dress in new clothes, give charity, and pray in congregation. Eid is celebrated with the exchange of presents and delicious food with family and friends.
All FCPS schools and offices are closed on Monday, March 31, for Eid al-Fitr. Tuesday, April 1, is a student holiday and teacher workday. See the complete school year calendar.

April is the Month of the Military Child! Every year we take the opportunity to recognize military-connected youth for their service and contribution to our community. Fairfax County Public Schools is proud to have over 14,000 military-connected youth as a part of our student body. We appreciate the varied life experiences they bring to our school community, and recognize their strength and resilience. In FCPS libraries, students develop knowledge and skills, experience a sense of belonging, find inspiration and support, and have the ability to freely pursue their personal interests and academic growth. April 4 is National School Librarians Day. We are thankful for all that our librarian, Ms. Rachel Zamudio, does for our Parklawn family! |
Last year, FCPS held community forums and surveyed middle school families regarding middle school start times. Now, we would like to hear from all staff and families on the possibility of adjusting school start times across the division. The goal remains to begin middle school at 8 a.m. or later at the start of the 2026-27 school year.
On April 1, a survey link will be sent by email to staff, parents/caregivers, and students in grades 5-12. The confidential survey will be open for two weeks and will be available in multiple languages.
The previously scheduled meetings on April 1 (virtual) and April 9 (in-person) have been cancelled. The community will be notified of a future meeting focused on Parklawn Elementary School and the 2025-26 school year. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.
The School Board approved moving forward on the boundary study on March 13, 2025. Additional details related to the study will be provided at a later date.
Stay informed by visiting the Parklawn Elementary School Boundary Study webpage.
Please note: Fairfax County Public Schools is also conducting a divisionwide review of school boundaries. Any meetings scheduled for Parklawn Elementary School are separate from the division wide review.
Prior to our Monthly Market, the Parklawn PTA will be holding its April meeting at 4 :30 pm in the library. Then, join us at the Monthly Market at 5 pm! We’re partnering with the @Capital Area Food Bank to offer fresh produce and dry goods to members of the Parklawn school community, free of charge. Groceries are available on a first‑come first‑serve basis. We'll see you there! |
