💜 April is Month of the Military Child
FCPS is proud to have more than 14,000 military-connected students. Thank you to all our students & their families who serve. We are grateful for your contributions to our classrooms and our nation. #MonthOfTheMilitaryChild #PurpleUpFCPS

Check out the PurpleUp! Positive Messages Bulletin Board in our NFES cafeteria. Students across the school shared positive messages of support to our military-connected Knights. Thank you, Mr. Drake and Ms. Eadie, for putting together this beautiful display!
Early Release Forms
 |
|
Each student brought home a form regarding our next Early Release, Monday, April 21st. Please complete and return this form for every student so that our school can ensure a safe dismissal for everyone. |
To show support for all our military-connected families, we are inviting our school community to “Purple Up!” on Wednesday, April 9, for military children.
Why purple? Purple symbolizes all branches of the military as a combination of Army green, Marine Corps red, and Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force and Space Force blue.
Knights @ All-County Chorus
10 Newington Forest Chorus Singers participated in the All County 6th Grade Choral Festival last weekend! Everyone worked hard and had a great time with students from across Fairfax County. Thank you, Mrs. Gordon and Mx. Bosley, for working with our Knights to get ready for this event!
Kindergarten Orientation @ NFES
We hosted Kindergarten Orientation this week and we saw lots of rising Kindergarten Knights! They learned about how Kindergarten works at Newington Forest, explored some specials like art, music, and PE, and took a peek at the Kindergarten classrooms.
If you have questions about registering a rising Kindergartener, please contact Ms. Padua, Student Information Assistant, at jpadua@fcps.edu.
Excellence Is at a Crossroads
Fairfax County residents believe in the value of a strong public school system. Residents live here because of the excellence of Fairfax County Public Schools, even our community members with grown children. Excellence in FCPS comes from its people — dedicated teachers and support staff who make sure that our students are ready to learn. Today, that excellence is at a crossroads.
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will finalize the budget on Tuesday, May 6, and the current advertised budget underfunds FCPS by $150 million.
Now is the time. Do we want continued excellence, or are we ready to consider cuts to important programs that we have come to expect from FCPS?

🎤 Save the Date: Community Conversations with Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid
Your voice matters, and Superintendent Reid wants to hear from you! Share your thoughts and ask questions regarding FCPS on Monday, April 7, at Greenbriar West Elementary School, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Click on a date to register. Registration is not required but is encouraged for planning purposes.
Childcare and interpretation services will be provided. Events are open to all. Find out about other opportunities to connect with Dr. Reid.
⏰ Share Your Thoughts on School Start Times
FCPS would like to hear from all families on the possibility of adjusting school start times across the division. Please check your email for a survey link from Fairfax County Public Schools. It was also sent to staff as well as to students in grades 5-12. The confidential survey will be open through Saturday, April 12.
FCPS Cares is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story so we can all acknowledge the good work of our Newington Forest staff members. |
