Principal's Message

Hello Bruin Families,

Today marks the end of the 3rd quarter and a 4-day weekend for students. We hope they all come back next Wednesday ready to finish out the year strong.

Our testing schedule for SOL and AP exams is ready and on our website. Testing details, including locations, will be emailed to the students before the start of exams.

I am so excited for our MS and HS Science Olympiad Teams who are competing in States this weekend. Go Bruins!

Finally, please note that we are holding a HS Pep Rally on April 4, which means 2nd and 8th periods will be flipped that day.

Go Bruins!

Lindsey Kearns

Parent Tech Talk

Cell phones have changed the way we communicate. Help children and teens be safer and smarter while using their phones.

Use these conversation starters to ask your child about their cell phone use:

  • What do you use your phone for the most? Can you show me some of your favorite apps?
  • Do you know everyone you have as a contact in your phone and on different apps?
  • Has anyone ever taken an embarrassing picture of you without your permission?
  • Have you ever taken an embarrassing picture of someone else? What did you do with it?
  • Have you ever talked with someone you first met online on your cellphone?
  • What would you do if someone sent you a text or picture that was inappropriate?
  • Do you know how to turn off GPS and turn on privacy settings for the different apps you use?

Reinforce:

  • Expectations and guidance for when children are allowed to use their cellphones, what websites they can visit, and what apps they can download.
  • The importance of privacy. Know an app’s purpose before your child downloads it. Who are the users? What type of privacy settings are available?
  • The idea that anything a user sends from their phones can be easily forwarded and shared.
  • The possible consequences of sending sexually explicit or provocative images or text messages with their phones.

Celebrating Champions in Health Care!

In honor of National Athletic Training Month, Lake Braddock would like to recognize frontline workers helping keep our athletic family safe - Athletic Trainers.

During March, Athletic Trainers across America are being recognized for their commitment to helping people prevent injuries and stay healthy and active. As health care professionals, they are highly educated and dedicated to the job at hand. Athletic Trainers are found in high schools and colleges, corporations, professional sports, the military, performing arts, clinics, hospitals and physician offices.

Lake Braddock would like to salute our amazing Athletic Trainers, Kristyn Wharton (Ms. K) and Brittany Griffin (Ms. G), for their essential role in providing quality health care for our athletes every day! Thank you for all you do for our community!

Coming Soon: School Start Times Survey

Last year, FCPS held community forums and surveyed middle school families regarding middle school start times. Now, we would like to hear from all staff and families on the possibility of adjusting school start times across the division. The goal remains to begin middle school at 8 a.m. or later at the start of the 2026-27 school year.

On April 1, a survey link will be sent by email to staff, parents/caregivers, and students in grades 5-12. The confidential survey will be open for two weeks and will be available in multiple languages.
