The Cardinal Connection: CPES News Delivered to You

Dear Cardinal Families,

As we continue to prioritize a focused and engaging learning environment for all our students, we would like to take a moment to remind everyone of FCPS's cell phone and smart watch expectations. We appreciate your partnership in ensuring our students are free from distractions during the school day.

Cell Phones:

  • All cell phones must be silenced and stored in backpacks for the duration of the school day.

Smart Watches:

  • Smart watches that serve a dual purpose (e.g., timekeeping, fitness tracking) may be worn.
  • However, the phone features of these devices, including texting, internet browsing, and making or receiving calls, must be turned off during the school day when phone use is prohibited.
  • Teachers will not be checking watches throughout the day to ensure they are off. If a student is observed looking at and interacting with their watch for an extended period of time, the teacher will request that the student remove the watch and store it in their backpack for the remainder of the school day.

Restrooms:

  • For privacy and safety reasons, the use of phones, tablets, and other mobile devices is strictly prohibited in restrooms, unless there is a documented medical necessity or emergency.
  • Students should not contact parents from the restroom for pick up. If your child contacts you from the restroom, please call the school office so we can check on your child.

We understand that cell phones and smart watches are a part of our daily lives, and we aim to strike a balance between their usefulness and the importance of a distraction-free learning environment. We believe that this policy helps to foster a positive and focused school atmosphere where students can thrive.

Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us maintain a productive and safe learning environment for all our students.

Warmly,

Allison Hoak, Principal

Jon Kemmerer, Assistant Principal

💜Month of the Military Child

April is the Month of the Military Child! Every year we take the opportunity to recognize military-connected youth for their service and contribution to our community. Fairfax County Public Schools is proud to have over 14,000 military-connected youth as a part of our student body. We appreciate the varied life experiences they bring to our school community, and recognize their strength and resilience. To show our appreciation for these students at Cunningham Park Elementary, we will wear purple on April 9th.

🧥Lost and Found

We started the year with a remarkably empty lost and found! However, with the warmer weather, it's filling up quickly. Please have your child check the lost and found near the lobby restrooms for any missing clothing, lunch boxes, or water bottles. All unclaimed items will be donated on April 14th, the start of Spring Break.
