Message from Mr. Greata

There was no better way to close out the third quarter than by attending the Regional Science Fair at Robinson last weekend. The amount of talent, intellect, and hard work on display was simply inspiring, and it was wonderful to see so many Woodson students recognized for their outstanding science fair projects.

In fact, every single Woodson project placed either first, second, third, or received honorable mention in its category! Several of our students also earned cash prizes, scholarships, certificates of merit, and other prestigious honors. You can see the full list of winners from the 2025 Regional Science and Engineering Fair on the FCPS Science Fair website.

Two of our students received grand prize nominations:

  • Molly Hawkins for her project "The Effect of Propolis on Levodopa-Induced Dyskinesia in a Drosophila Model of Parkinson’s Disease"
  • Heman Bekele for his project "PcTx1-Loaded Lipid Nanoparticles for a Low-Cost Ischemic Stroke Treatment"

We are thrilled to share that Heman was awarded a grand prize and will represent Woodson at the International Science and Engineering Fair this May. Congratulations!

A huge thank you to our incredible science teachers for the work they do to prepare students—not only by organizing our school-based fair, but also by guiding students through high-level scientific research. Woodson is consistently well represented at the regional level, a reflection of the strength of our science program and the dedication of our students.

As the third quarter closes, please note that the Gradebook in SIS ParentVUE and StudentVUE will be closed from today at 4 p.m. through Monday, April 7, at 6 a.m.. Following the holiday on Monday, there will be a teacher workday on Tuesday, and students will return to school on Wednesday, April 2 (Even Day).

We also want to celebrate our Orchestra, which earned Superior and Excellent ratings at the annual Orchestra Assessments earlier this month. Special congratulations to Audrey Kan, Sahn Kim, James Ngo for being selected to the All-Virginia Orchestra—what an amazing honor!

While we often see our athletic trainers in action when a student-athlete is injured, their impact goes far beyond the sidelines. From the end of the school day, they are supporting our athletes through injury prevention, recovery, and wellness guidance. March is National Athletic Training Month, and we’d like to thank our phenomenal athletic trainers, Chris Hogge and Jen Cooke, for everything they do for our students.

Next week is Senior Prom, and we’re looking forward to a memorable evening with the Class of 2025! Since prom is on a Friday, we are encouraging strong school attendance that day. To celebrate, seniors who attend school on Friday will receive a donut and a commemorative prom ticket in the morning. We can't wait to get tangled in time next Friday night!

Tonight is Senior Night for Girls Lacrosse, and we hope you’ll join us at 7:30 p.m. to cheer on our team! For all athletic schedules and updates, visit our athletics website.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Principal

CPP students take a field trip to Mary Washington College

This week, students in Woodson’s College Partnership Program visited University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va for an admissions briefing and campus tour. The goal of the FCPS’ College Partnership Program is to systematically mitigate the impact of barriers to access and opportunity, and support students who are from populations that are historically underrepresented on college campuses. C.G. Woodson would like to thank Educate Fairfax and their generous grant for making this college visit a success.
