Dear Wakefield Forest Families,
Monday, March 31, 2025 is Eid-al-Fitr, which is the conclusion of Ramadan. I had the pleasure of attending a Ramadan Interfaith IFTAR dinner with my sixth grader in the last few weeks. This wasn't my first opportunity to participate in an IFTAR dinner, but having this experience with my daughter was really powerful. I was grateful for an invitation from a member of the WFES community. As a part of our equity work at Wakefield Forest, I have been working to build stronger relationships with our surrounding community faith groups.
If you are a part of a local faith group that serves our families, that you would like for me to connect with, please email me at sbprindle@fcps.edu.
With gratitude,
Sharyn Prindle
Principal

It is time to start planning for our next school year. Developing class assignments each year is a complex process. School administration, classroom teachers, counselors, special education staff and specialists all have the opportunity to provide feedback on class groupings.
If you have feedback that you would like for us to consider, please add it to this Family Input Form no later than May 2, 2025. Late submissions will not be accepted. We will consider all feedback provided, but we are not always able to fulfill requests.
We respectfully ask that you do not request particular teachers. It is unfair to give special consideration to some families when it would be impossible to grant requests from all families. Please be aware that grade level assignments for staff sometimes change, due to late enrollments or other changes. Staff assignments are determined at the end of the summer.
Do you have a rising Kindergartner? Early registration helps us to be fully staffed for the next school year. If you have a child who will be five years old by September 30, 2025, you have the option to do online or in-person registration. For online registration, please follow the directions below:
https://www.fcps.edu/online-registration
For in-person registration, please or contact our Registrar, Sue Holmes, at ksholmes@fcps.edu or 703-503-2300 to receive forms via email or in person with an appointment.
For more information on registration requirements please visit the FCPS kindergarten registration webpage.

April is the Month of the Military Child. We will be recognizing our military families by wearing purple on April 9th and having a picnic lunch for our military connected families. |
Ms. Callahan turned the 2nd graders into fire flies, ladybugs, ants, bees and even a few stink bugs this week! What a wonderful performance!
Last year, FCPS held community forums and surveyed middle school families regarding middle school start times
Now, we would like to hear from all staff and families on the possibility of adjusting school start times across the division. The goal remains to begin middle school at 8 a.m. or later at the start of the 2026-27 school year.
On Tuesday, April 1, a survey link will be sent by email to staff, parents/caregivers and students in grades 5-12. The confidential survey will be open for two weeks and will be available in multiple languages.
The Woodson Computer Science Honor Society offered an after-school coding class for grades 4 - 6 students. It was awesome to see our students getting excited about future opportunities with coding.
