Notes from the Nest

In our SEES school community, we S.O.A.R., meaning that we demonstrate: Support, Optimism, Acceptance, and Responsibility.

Dear Springfield Estates Families,

As we wrap up the third quarter and prepare to enter the end-of-year testing season, I want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible growth we’ve seen in our students. They’ve worked so hard all year, and we are proud of their progress. While we encourage each child to try their best on upcoming assessments, we also remind them—and all of you—that they are so much more than a test score.

At the same time, we want to share a message that’s equally important. We’ve recently seen an increase in the use of inappropriate and hurtful language among students, including various forms of hate speech. This has no place at Springfield Estates. Our staff is actively addressing this through conversations, reteaching, and reinforcing the impact of words on others and our community. We ask for your partnership in talking with your children at home about kindness, empathy, and respect. If your child ever experiences or witnesses concerning behavior, please continue to report it so we can respond and support all students.

Let’s continue working together to ensure SEES is a place where every student feels safe, valued, and supported. Let’s finish strong by focusing on SOARing—being Supportive, Optimistic, Accepting, and Responsible—every single day.

With gratitude,

April Martin, Proud Principal  and Kassandra Flading, Assistant Principal

From FCPS

Coming Soon: School Start Times Survey Last year, FCPS held community forums and surveyed middle school families regarding middle school start times. Now, we would like to hear from all staff and families on the possibility of adjusting school start times across the division. The goal remains to begin middle school at 8 a.m. or later at the start of the 2026-27 school year.

On April 1, a survey link will be sent by email to staff, parents/caregivers, and students in grades 5-12. The confidential survey will be open for two weeks and will be available in multiple languages.

🏫 Helping Your Child Prepare for Kindergarten We recognize that parents are their children’s first teachers. Explore the resources on FCPS’ School Readiness and Transition to Kindergarten webpage for ways to help ensure your child starts kindergarten with confidence.
