Statement regarding Ramadan and the Spring Fling semi-formal dance

Dear PTSA and Edison community,

It has come to our attention that Eid-al-Fitr might begin on March 28th for some of our Muslim community, the same date as the Spring Fling semi-formal dance.

The PTSA selected Friday, March 28th for the dance after thoroughly reviewing the Edison and FCPS 24-25 calendars, which do not show any religious holidays for March 28th (Eid-al-Fitr is listed as a holiday on Monday, March 31st). It was the only Friday available for the remainder of the school year.

At that time, we did not anticipate that individual commitments, such as religious observances, might impact student participation. We sincerely empathize with any student who may be affected, especially our Muslim community members observing Ramadan, and understand the challenges they may face in attending.

We would like to remind everyone that the Spring Fling is an optional event, organized and sponsored by the Edison PTSA, at the request of the students. We did explore other potential dates to reschedule, but due to Spring Break, Prom, testing schedules, and sports commitments, we found no alternative that could work as we approach the end of the school year.

To better accommodate students observing Ramadan, we are making additional arrangements for the event. The cafeteria will be open from 7 PM until sundown for students who are fasting. If students require halal food to break their fast or need any other accommodations, we ask that they note their needs when purchasing tickets on Givebacks, where there will be a section for special requests. Additionally, we will provide a quiet area in the auxiliary gym for students who need a peaceful space. We are also working on securing a carpeted room for prayer or meditation. Tickets can be found here: https://app.givebacks.gives/spring-fling

This situation highlights that, with greater diversity within our PTSA membership, we could better serve the entire Edison community. We encourage participation from all Edison students and parents, regardless of background, as we strive to create an inclusive environment for everyone.

The Food Pantry Initiatives Committee of the Edison PTSA is asking for your help to provide food for Edison families who are facing food insecurity during Spring Break. This is the final Food Pantry fundraiser of the school year, and your generous donations will go directly to supporting families in need.

We aim to provide ALDI gift cards to 35 Edison families, which will help them purchase the food they need. All donations will be used to purchase gift cards, which will be distributed through the Edison High School Student Services Department. Every contribution, no matter the size, is deeply appreciated and will make a significant difference in the lives of those who need it most.

Thank you for your kindness and support!

Coming soon: PTSA Fundraiser and Auction

The PTSA annual fundraiser and auction fund our senior scholarships and other PTSA initiatives.  We will be auctioning graduation seats and items donated by the community.  The EHS PTSA has been provided seats by our Admin to raffle off in our fundraiser.  While graduation is at Eagle Bank Arena with open seating, these graduation seats are reserved, premier seats, usually where staff sits, and are much closer to the stage.  This is great for watching your loved one walk across the stage and for better photo opportunities.  Stay tuned!

If you own a business and would like to contribute an auction item or donate directly to the EHS PTSA, please email our President, Sharon Riley at president.edisonptsa@gmail.com

  • Class of 2026 All Night Graduation Party
  • $1,000 Senior Scholarships
  • Teacher mini-grants
  • Monthly membership meetings with Principal Burke in attendance
