Glasgow Bands Receive Top Marks at District Band Assessment

This past weekend the Glasgow Bands participated in their District Band Assessment, and all Three ensembles who performed, the 6th Grade Advanced Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble earned ratings of SUPERIOR, which is the highest mark a group can be awarded. Additionally, our students made some Glasgow history as this is the first time in school history that Glasgow has had three bands receive Superior Ratings at assessment!

Assessment is the equivalent of an SOL for music students. However, instead of taking a written test, they do what they practice in class and perform a concert of three pieces followed by sight reading! For sight reading, students and directors are provided a brand new piece of music and given seven minutes of practice time (where they are allowed to do anything EXCEPT play their instruments!) and then they have a single chance to perform this new piece. Assessment is judged by experts in the music field and master teachers who assess student performance based on their Tone, Technique, and Musicality among other factors.

Please join us in congratulating our Glasgow Band students on their incredible accomplishments and success this past weekend at District Assessment!

Meal Packing

Last year, more than 70 Glasgow Young Scholars volunteered for 3 hours for a food packaging activity. Students packaged over 20 thousand meals that, through the work of the Kids Against Hunger organization, were sent to feed families in Liberia, West Africa. $5,000 was solicited by the JJ Missions organization in order for this volunteer opportunity to happen for our students. This year, we are trying to raise $2,000 to mitigate the cost. Please help us reach our goal and donate using this link: Donate to JJS Missions. Select "Meal Packing" as the donation designation. JJS Missions is a 501(c)(3) corporation - donations are tax deductible.
