LCES Updates 3/21/25 This Week's Updates

A Message From the Principal

Dear Families,

We’d like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to each of you for your incredible support of our One School, One Book schoolwide book club, featuring Mr. Limoncello’s Library. Seeing our students engaged and excited about reading has been amazing!

The Scholastic Book Fair was a resounding success, thanks to your support! We especially appreciated seeing so many of you at our Book Fair Family Night. It was a perfect evening, made even sweeter by the delicious Kona Ice truck, generously provided by our PTA!

As we look forward to spring and the final stretch of the third quarter, we are getting ready for what’s ahead. We are hopeful to see you for our upcoming events, to include PTA Movie Night this evening, and the Choir Concert, Pyramid Art Show and All County Chorus happening next week. We are also excited about our upcoming Grade 6 Basketball Game scheduled for Friday, April 11th. Thanks to our staff and parent volunteers for making this happen for us!

Now, a brief update regarding our upcoming school renovations. You may have noticed the new construction fencing along the perimeter of our school grounds. The fencing extends inside as well, marking a construction zone. This fencing marks the designated construction pathway and staging area for the renovations. We understand that construction will inevitably generate some noise, and we sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate this process. We anticipate more changes during spring break, and we will continue to keep you informed of the developments as they come. We are excited about the improvements to our school and are confident that, together, we can get through this renovation project!

Thank you again for your unwavering support. We look forward to a fantastic spring!

Mrs. Sloan and Mrs. Hutchinson

2025 Franklin Band & Orchestra Camp – Registration Now Open!

Band Camp

Franklin Band and Orchestra Camp is a half-day summer program designed to develop young musicians of all ability levels and is open to students between the ages of 9-14.  The camp has four Band Ensembles and five Orchestra Ensembles.  Each day, students will have the opportunity to grow musically through both large ensemble performance and small group/instrument-specific clinics.  One day of camp is roughly equivalent to four weekly elementary band or strings lessons during the schoolyear.  This can really accelerate a child’s musical development.  Franklin Band & Orchestra Camp is a fantastic summer opportunity for young musicians and a great place to make music while making friends.

👩🏻‍⚕️Note From the Clinic👩🏻‍⚕️

We are continuing to see an increase in student illness related absences, please be mindful of the following:

This is the time of year when we expect to see an increase in the number of respiratory illnesses in our community, including coughs, colds, sore throats, respiratory syncytial virus and influenza. This fall, we also saw a rise in pediatric pneumonia. If your child has a fever, a cough that is worsening or you have concerns that their “common cold” is something more, please take them to a medical provider for evaluation and diagnosis.

We are also seeing an increase in gastrointestinal viruses. Vomiting and diarrhea can lead to dehydration. It is important to stay hydrated when ill. GI viruses are very contagious, so it is important to follow these tips.

To help prevent the spread of illnesses:

  • Look for signs of illness in your child.
  • Keep children home when they are ill to prevent the illness from spreading to others. If your child has a fever, they should remain home until the fever has been gone for 24 hours (without fever-reducing medications) and they feel well enough to attend a full day of school.
  • Keep children home when they are experiencing vomiting or diarrhea. They may return to school 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting and/or Diarrhea
  • Teach your child how to stop the spread of illness by washing their hands often, covering their mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. For Gastrointestinal illnesses, washing hands with soap and water is the best practice, not hand sanitizer.
  • Stay up-to-date on immunizations.

March is Music in Our Schools Month

BAND

March is Music in Our Schools Month! This week’s highlight is our BAND program!

Lees Corner boasts the LARGEST elementary band program in the Chantilly pyramid with 126 band students total this year!  Our band classes are made up of 5th and 6th graders who meet once a week for one hour of instruction during the specials block with Mrs. Hill. Band students practice in different instrument sections to learn everything from the most basic fundamentals to advanced musical concepts including but not limited to reading music notation, embouchure, hand position, characteristic tone quality, articulation, intonation, dynamics, chromatics, scales and ensemble skills involving balance and blend. In January, our sixth graders were invited to participate in our annual Chantilly Band Day-a huge collaboration with the other elementary, middle, and high schools in the pyramid. This spring, we will have 16 students perform at the annual District XII Solo and Ensemble Festival in April. We are really looking forward to performing as the “Pep Band” at the Lees Corner vs Oak Hill basketball game at 6:00pm on April 11th at CHS, and our Band Spring Concert at 6:30pm on May 1st at Franklin Middle School!  Hope to see you there!  The best part about band is making music with your friends and having fun in band class! YOU can join our band when you reach 5th grade…come hear us play and start thinking about which instrument you’d like to try someday!
