Dear London Towne Family,

Can you believe that Friday, March 28th marks the END of QUARTER 3?!  This schoolyear is flying by!  With that said, we plan on maximizing every moment to ensure your child is ready to tackle the upcoming schoolyear.  We need your help!  We need your child at school EVERYDAY!

Attendance matters.  The Virginia Department of Education defines "chronically absent' as as missing 10% of school days at any given point across the year.  At this point in the school year, if your child has missed more than 13 total days they are considered "chronically absent."

Did you know that part of our school performance rating given by the state is based upon our attendance rate?  This is because attendance is compulsory (required by law) in the state of Virginia. We know in order to maximize teaching and learning, kids need to be at school.  If your child is considered "chronically absent," a member of our attendance team will be reaching out to discuss a plan to make certain your child finishes the year strong.

On Monday, March 24, London Towne families will receive an email with a link to the FCPS Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Feedback Form. This questionnaire is part of the Performance Evaluation Program and provides an opportunity to share anonymous feedback about our school’s leadership and environment.

Topics covered in the survey include:

  • Instructional leadership
  • School climate
  • Management (human resources and organizational)
  • Communication and community relations
  • Culturally responsive and equitable leadership
  • Professionalism

The questionnaire will be open March 24 – April 4 and will be collected online. Keep an eye out for an email from FCPSSurvey@fcps.edu and take a few minutes to complete it.  Your input is valuable and helps shape the future of our school. Thank you for your time and feedback!

As always, we value your partnership and look forward to a fantastic week!

Sincerely,

🦁 Shele Banford, Principal

🦁🦁 Lucy Zamora and Jordan Moore, Assistant Principals

  2025-26 Kindergarten Registration

Attending kindergarten provides children with an opportunity to learn and practice the essential social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives. Eligible children can also be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps us prepare and ensure we have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.

Families should prepare for registration by gathering documents and completing forms on the FCPS kindergarten registration webpage. FCPS offers support and resources for all families to help with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For support in other languages, visit the kindergarten registration webpage.

A strong start to school is Goal 1 of the FCPS2023-30 Strategic Plan

There’s an easy five-step process for parents wanting to register their child for kindergarten:

  1. Determine eligibility.
  2. Identify your local school.
  3. Gather documents.
  4. Fill out forms.
  5. Schedule an appointment.

After the appointment at the school (the student and one guardian must be present), the student will be ready for our Kindergarten Orientation at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1.

Read more about the registration process. For additional information, please contact Carolyn Licastro, our school registrar, at 703-227-5403.

  FCPS Advanced Academics Newsletter

Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) Screening for Subject Specific and Part-Time Services

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is committed to challenging all students through talent development and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of advanced learners.

Screening for Subject Specific and Part-Time Services

Students can be screened for subject specific and part time AAP services at any time in the school year. In the spring, schools review data on all students to determine services for the start of the next school year.

Subject Specific Advanced Differentiation, Grades K-6

Some students require differentiation beyond the needs of age-level peers in their class in at least one specific subject area. Classroom teachers may adjust instruction for students in these areas by:

  • Providing different assignments and resources in those subjects,
  • Grouping students by their strengths, interests, and readiness, and
  • Providing additional challenges using materials from the AAP Curriculum Framework. Student needs for subject specific differentiation are re-evaluated each year at the local school.

Part-Time Advanced Academic Programs, Grades 3-6

Some students have advanced academic abilities in multiple subject areas and require differentiation beyond the needs of age-level peers in their class in multiple content areas.   • Students work with other students that have similar academic needs through weekly pull-out classes or weekly co-taught lessons with the AART and classroom teacher.

  • Teachers provide frequent opportunities to use materials from the AAP Curriculum Framework in Language Arts, science, social studies, and/or mathematics. Part-Time services continue through Grade 6. Students do not need to be evaluated each year.

Learn more about typical developmental milestones.

The Infant & Toddler Connection of Virginia (ITC) is the state’s early intervention system for infants and toddlers (0-36 months) with disabilities and their families.  Student Fasting Meal Kits

Students who are fasting during the school day between now and March 28 can take school meal kits home at the end of the day. Families must fill out a separate request form for each week and for each student in order to receive school meal kits. To receive meal kits for the week of March 24, please fill out this form by March 17.

School meal kits will provide complete, healthy meals that include protein, fruits, vegetables, low-fat milk, and whole grains—just like the meals served at school. The food will be kept cold so it stays fresh, and you can heat it at home. The meals are made to fit different food preferences.

Here's how it works:

  • Parents/Guardians: Fill out a Fasting Meals Request Form for each week your child will pick up school meal kits.
  • Student Pick-up: Students can pick up one breakfast meal kit and one lunch meal kit at the end of the school day.
  • Who can get a meal kit? Any student who is fasting can get a meal kit. If a student gets lunch or breakfast at school, they can't get a meal kit that day. Only students can pick up the meal kits – no adults.
  • When? These meal kits are only available from February 28 to March 28, 2025 at the end of the school day.

Parents/Guardians: Please fill out the forms on the FNS website by the deadline dates if you would like your fasting student(s) to receive school meal kits at the end of the school day to take home. A separate form must be filled out for each week and each student.

Please contact the Office of Food and Nutrition Services with any questions.

celebrating arts graphic

The Council for Art Education (CFAE) administers Youth Art Month. Youth Art Month encourages support for quality school art programs, and promotes art material safety. The program provides a medium for recognizing skills developed through visual arts experiences unlike any other curriculum subjects, including:

  • Problem solving
  • Creativity
  • Observation
  • Communication

Art shows, special exhibits, fundraisers, and school and community activities take place annually, traditionally during March, to celebrate visual art education for grades K-12.

March has also been designated by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) for the observance of Music In Our Schools Month® (MIOSM®), the time of year when music education becomes the focus of schools across the nation. The purpose of MIOSM is to raise awareness of the importance of music education for all children – and to remind citizens that school is where all children should have access to music. MIOSM is an opportunity for music teachers to bring their music programs to the attention of the school and the community, and to display the benefits that school music brings to students of all ages.
