Student Safety and Dismissal

Dear Parents and Guardians,

In our ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of all students during arrival and dismissal, we ask for your cooperation. Please encourage your child to use the crosswalks staffed by a crossing guard to cross safely.

For dismissal:

  • Walkers will exit through Door 12.
  • Kiss and Ride students will depart from Door 11.

We kindly ask parents picking up students by car to follow the Kiss and Ride line to ensure an orderly and efficient dismissal process. Our FCPS Security team will be present to assist with monitoring and ensuring the smooth flow of students.

Thank you for your understanding and support in keeping our students safe.

Advanced Academic Programs (AAP)

Screening for Subject Specific and Part-Time Services

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is committed to challenging all students through talent development and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of advanced learners.

Screening for Subject Specific and Part-Time Services

Students can be screened for subject specific and part time AAP services at any time in the school year. In the spring, schools review data on all students to determine services for the start of the next school year. Silverbrook will screen all students for subject specific and part-time services this spring.

Screening Process for Subject Specific and Part-Time Services

Multiple criteria are reviewed holistically to determine eligibility for all FCPS advanced academic services. Committees consider student work from opportunities with AAP lessons, examples of student reasoning or gifted behaviors from class discussions and activities, progress reports, achievement and ability scores, and parent or guardian input. Committees consider whether students have access to a group of students with similar academic needs to support academic conversations and growth in the classroom.

It's Square 1 Art Time!!

Do you have a student in kindergarten, 2nd, 4th, or 6th grade? If so, they have been working hard with our amazing art teachers to create something awesome for our Square 1 Art Fundraiser! Square 1 Art takes your child's artwork, and turns it into really cool keepsakes, like tote bags, magnets, luggage tags and coffee mugs. Order forms will be coming home with your child soon! Orders must be placed online at square1art.com. The deadline to order is April 4th, 2025.

If you have a 1st, 3rd, or 5th grader, your child can create something awesome (or use something already created) to submit as well! Please visit square1art.com for tips and suggestions. Upload artwork and order by April 4th, 2025.

Silverbrook benefits from every order placed. These items make great gifts for parents, grandparents, and relatives. Get a head start on Mother's Day and Father's Day gifts!

*Please note, all orders must be placed online, and Square 1 Art will only be using direct ship to your home address... items purchased will not be mailed to the school.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Renee Williams at square1art@silverbrookpto.org.
