Message from Dr. Khoshaba
Greetings, SoCo family,
March is a month full of energy and excitement! With the arrival of spring, we welcome longer days, blooming flowers, and fresh opportunities for growth. This month also brings the fun of March Madness, a time of teamwork, perseverance, and school spirit—whether you're a basketball fan or just enjoy the thrill of competition. As we move through this season of renewal, let’s embrace the momentum, cheer each other on, and make the most of all the opportunities ahead. Here’s to a fantastic March filled with success and new beginnings!
Student and Staff Belonging
Welcome, Coach Urquart!
We are thrilled to welcome the newest member of our educational family, Coach Alex Urquart, as our new head football coach! Coach Urquart met with the team this past Monday, and it was clear from the start that his passion, leadership, and vision for the program will be hugely impactful. The meeting was a great success, with many students commenting that we’ve truly found the right person to lead the Stallions both on and off the field. With Coach Urquart at the helm, we’re ready to tackle the future with confidence and determination—get ready for an exciting season ahead!
Stallion Voices: Feedback from the Principal's Student Advisory Council
Our Principal’s Student Advisory Council recently gathered to provide valuable feedback about their experiences at SoCo, and we couldn’t be more impressed with their thoughtful contributions. Like a herd of stallions running toward a common goal, these students shared diverse perspectives that will help us continue to improve and grow as a school community. Here’s a sampling of what our school leaders discussed with me:
- When home and school are on the same page, our students thrive. We encourage student drivers to remember that our parking lot speed limit is 5 mph for everyone's safety. Parents, your support in reinforcing this message at home will help ensure that we all stay safe on campus.
- To help maintain an efficient and respectful learning environment, students are reminded that hallway passes are intended for approximately 5 minutes. When students use their passes for longer, it can impact the ability of others to use them as well. Working together, we can create a smooth and considerate experience for everyone.
- We appreciate our parents’ support in keeping our parking lot organized and respectful. Please avoid parking in numbered spots, which are designated for students, and kindly refrain from yelling at or banging on windows when students are parking. When home and school work together, we create a positive and respectful environment for all students.
I look forward to using this and other feedback to guide our next steps and ensure that SoCo continues to be a place where all students can gallop toward success!
A Sweet Conversation
Teachers are invited to sign up for "Cookies with Khoshaba," a casual opportunity to meet with me and discuss anything on their mind, whether it’s something they want me to know or a topic they’re curious about. This is a relaxed, voluntary chance for us to connect on a personal level, beyond just the professional setting. It’s a wonderful way for me to get to know the staff as individuals, fostering a deeper, more meaningful connection that strengthens our school community. I look forward to these sweet moments of conversation and the chance to hear from everyone!
High Quality Instruction
March Into Reading!
We are committed to providing a variety of literacy resources to support students of all reading levels, including those who are avid or accelerated readers. To foster a love of reading, we have implemented “Book Challenges” with fun incentives and created custom “READ” posters featuring our own students and staff, making literacy more relatable and inspiring. Additionally, we have updated our library’s nonfiction section to better reflect student interests, adding new books on cooking, including diverse cuisines, as well as general and skill-based art books. Through these efforts, we hope to cultivate a vibrant reading culture where every student can find books that excite and engage them!
School Culture
From Trash to Treasure: A Creative Can-Do Project
In our "One Man’s Trash is Another Man’s Treasure" project, Mrs. Fischer, our talented Art teacher, is guiding students to transform ordinary trashcans into extraordinary works of art. Through this creative endeavor, students not only explore their artistic skills but also discover the beauty in everyday objects that might otherwise be overlooked. By turning something so simple into something truly unique, they’re learning that with a little imagination, even the most “garbage” ideas can become treasure. This project is a fantastic reminder that art can be found everywhere, even in a can!
Lunchtime Locations: Keeping Students Safe and Focused
During lunch, students are expected to remain in one of three designated areas: the cafeteria, the library (with a pass from the cafeteria), or with a teacher who has granted permission. This policy is in place to ensure that students are safe, supervised, and engaged during their break. Students are not permitted to walk in the halls, hang out in restrooms, or be in any other areas of the building. By following these guidelines, we can maintain a positive and organized environment for everyone.
Global Reflections: International Night Execs Take the Lead
The International Night Student Executive Board recently gathered to reflect on this year’s program, using the Plus-Minus-Delta activity to evaluate what went well, what could have been better, and how we can improve for next year. Through this thoughtful discussion, the students demonstrated impressive maturity in their leadership, both on and off the stage. Their insights will help us continue to grow and evolve this event, making it even more impactful in the future. We’re grateful for their dedication and creativity—they truly helped us “stage” an unforgettable evening!
Have a restful and enjoyable weekend!

99 Pledges is LIVE!
The Stallion Bands annual virtual fundraiser 99 Pledges just kicked off and will be open until April 2nd. Click Here to get to the main page. Please help us spread the word by sharing this with friends and family!
We are so grateful for everyone who can help us spread the word, and support our students' amazing musical talents. (Fun note: Mr. Engdahl will be rewarding the class with the highest percentage of participation!)
Spring Concession Stand Sign Up
Spring Sports are underway and we NEED your help! In order for us to keep our concession stand up and running we need volunteers to assist us on game nights. The revenue generated through concession serves as the SCHS Athletic Booster Club's primary source of funding. The money earned goes right back to the sports teams to cover the costs of equipment, uniforms, and more! Any family can volunteer! You do not need to have a student participating in Sports to make an impact! Visit the link below or the QR code and consider helping us out one night! Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

AWARENESS
The Council for Art Education (CFAE) administers Youth Art Month. Youth Art Month encourages support for quality school art programs, and promotes art material safety. The program provides a medium for recognizing skills developed through visual arts experiences unlike any other curriculum subjects, including:
- Problem solving
- Creativity
Art shows, special exhibits, fundraisers, and school and community activities take place annually, traditionally during March, to celebrate visual art education for grades K-12.
March has also been designated by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) for the observance of Music In Our Schools Month® (MIOSM®), the time of year when music education becomes the focus of schools across the nation. The purpose of MIOSM is to raise awareness of the importance of music education for all children – and to remind citizens that school is where all children should have access to music. MIOSM is an opportunity for music teachers to bring their music programs to the attention of the school and the community, and to display the benefits that school music brings to students of all ages.
Theatre In Our Schools (TIOS) is a celebration of theatre in our schools and schools in our theatres. Sponsored by the American Alliance for Theatre & Education (AATE) and the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA), the goals of TIOS are to raise public awareness of the impact of theatre education and draw attention to the need for more access to quality programs in and out of school for all students. While TIOS presentations and advocacy may happen anytime in schools, theatres, and other public spaces, AATE and EdTA will recognize and promote March as the official Theatre In Our Schools month.
