Centreville Students, Families, and Community,
Last week, our faculty came together to focus on one of our priorities: getting better, together. Our growth as a school relies on the intersection of continuous improvement and strong collaboration. The work we do together—students, families, and staff—will be essential to our success. I thank you for your continued support in improving attendance and timeliness. I look forward to continuing our collaboration to tackle any challenges ahead and appreciate your ongoing support of our students and community!
This week is Inclusion Revolution Week! This week is a demonstration of how Centreville is an environment where all are welcome! It's an opportunity to celebrate and learn about our unique abilities, backgrounds, and perspectives. The week will culminate with FanQuest, when our Unified Basketball Team takes on the Unified Basketball Teams of other FCPS schools. Our tailgate will begin at 6:00PM and the game will begin at 7:00PM. We hope to see a large turnout of students, families, and staff to support this incredible event!
Lastly, the PTSA needs you! There are board positions available for next year including president and vice president. The PTSA must have at least a president to continue. The PTSA cannot function without Board members – we need your help to continue to support the Wildcat community! Please email secretary@cvhsptsa.org, treasurer@cvhsptsa.org, and ejhealey@fcps.edu to submit your interest, or with any questions. Be sure to include your name, contact information, and which role you are interested in serving.
Thank you and Go Wildcats!

Combined with the Superior rating earned by the Wildcat Marching Band in the fall at Marching Band Assessment, the Centreville High School Wildcat Band has earned the distinction of VBODA Band Program of Honor for the 2024-2025 school year. This new VBODA program recognizes high levels of musicianship and dedication to musical excellence. Recruiting First Centreville AVID Class: Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) fosters a safe and open culture, high expectations for teachers and students, and collaboration in all classrooms. AVID’s mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society. With teacher support for developing a growth mindset and the academic skills they need for future success, students grow to see their capabilities and find their own way. Last week, Assistant Principal, Montell Brown and, AVID Coordinator, Hilary Powell went to Liberty Middle School to speak to 71 8th grade students who were identified as candidates for the AVID program. Our goal is to build this program at Centreville High School to provide a continuum of AVID from grades 7-12.

FCPS Budget — Our Students Deserve the Best: More than $240 million of FCPS’ Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Advertised Budget is dedicated to increasing compensation for our teachers and staff to stay competitive and reduce turnover. Currently, FCPS ranks fifth out of eight neighboring districts in regards to starting salary for teachers with a master’s degree.
Our families expect — and our students deserve — the best teachers.
Next Steps in the Budget Process

Community members can submit testimony or sign up to speak.

Reminder to Sign Up Weekly for Student Fasting Meal Kits: Students who are fasting during the school day between now and March 28 can take school meal kits home at the end of the day. Families must fill out a separate request form for each week and for each student in order to receive school meal kits. To receive meal kits for the week of March 24, please fill out this form by March 17.
Please remind your child to pick up their meals each day at our school’s designated location. Visit the Food and Nutrition Services webpage for more information, including weekly request forms and deadlines.
Cameras Installed on School Bus Stop Arms: Cameras have been installed on the stop arms of 50 FCPS school buses. These cameras will be used to identify drivers who pass stopped school buses while children are entering and exiting the bus (called a “stop arm violation”).
Warnings for drivers will begin on Wednesday, April 9. After a 30-day warning period, citations will begin to be issued on Monday, May 12.
According to Virginia law, drivers must stop for stopped school buses with flashing red lights on and their stop signs extended. Motorists should stop when approaching from any direction (unless there is a barrier or median separating their lane from where the bus is stopped). They should remain stopped until everyone is clear and the bus is moving.
We appreciate our law enforcement partners for working with us to improve road safety and reduce accidents. Read more information about the stop arm cameras and all of the ways that we work with our county partners to keep students safe on their way to and from school.

Service Learning Reminders and Updates: Seniors- all service hours must be VERIFIED by an adult in x2vol by APRIL 21st to be approved before graduation
- Service learning is not required for graduation
- A minimum of 40 hours is required for a service cord
- A minimum of 50 hours is required towards Civics and Science seals
Helpful tips for all students:
- For an activity that you do consistently, please enter ONE submission every few months. Include the date range of that activity (ie. every Saturday from 10am-12pm from Jan. 6, 2024 to May 4, 2024) that adds up to the total number of hours claimed.
- If a parent directly oversees your activity as a part of the sponsoring organization, please indicate that in the description (ie. SYA soccer coach, Girl Scout troop leader, etc). Otherwise, the verifier should be an adult who is not related to you. It cannot be a classmate.
- The description should include your responsibilities as a volunteer and how you spent your time in that service learning activity. It can be 1-2 sentences.
- The reflection should include how you felt and how your volunteerism impacted others. It can be brief but thorough. It should not be a duplicate of your description.
- If you select the science goal in your entry, be sure that your volunteerism is directly related to the application of science (ie. glass recycling, invasive plant management, storm drain labeling, etc.).
