Families gathered on Friday night to celebrate our Multicultural Night!

A Message from Ms. Kirkland

It was so amazing to see so many families come together on Friday to celebrate Multicultural Night together. This annual PTO event is both a fundraiser and a celebration of our diverse community.  With food from all over the world and performances representing El Salvador, Bolivia, and Jamaica, it was a wonderful night full of pride.  Thank you to all of our families, staff, and students who participated.

The next two weeks continue with days of uninterrupted instruction.  At the end of the month, students will have two days off for a holiday and a teacher workday.  Please continue to schedule family trips on these days off to help ensure your child can participate in every minute of learning.

As always, thank you for your partnership.

Student Fasting Meal Kits for February 28 - March 28, 2025

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has issued a new, first-time waiver allowing students fasting during the school day from February 28 to March 28, 2025, to request take-home breakfast and lunch meal kits. The Office of Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) will provide meal kits reflecting the school menu. Meals will be kept cold and must be heated at home. Students may claim one breakfast and one lunch kit per day. If a student purchases breakfast or lunch at school, they cannot pick up a kit that day. Meal kits must be picked up by students at the end of the school day—adults cannot collect them. Parents or guardians must submit a weekly request form via the FCPS FNS website by the deadlines:

  • February 24, 2025, for February 28 and the week of March 3, 2025
  • March 3, 2025, for the week of March 10, 2025
  • March 10, 2025, for the week of March 17, 2025
  • March 17, 2025, for the week of March 24, 2025

Forms must be submitted on time to receive meal kits for the following week.

Save the Date: Kindergarten Orientation

If you have a child who will be turning 5 by September 30, please join us on Friday, May 2 at 8:30am to learn about our kindergarten program and next steps for registration. This event is for both the parent and the rising kindergarten student. Please share with neighbors.

🍎 Make Every Day Count! The Importance of Attendance

As you plan upcoming trips and other family events, please remember the importance of sending your child to school every day. Review the FCPS School Year Calendar and try to plan any time away during breaks from school.

Children who show up for school regularly develop fundamental reading and math skills while building a habit of good attendance that will carry them into college and careers. Research shows that children who were chronically absent (missing 18 days or more) in kindergarten and first grade were far less likely to read proficiently at the end of third grade.

Learn how families can help form good attendance habits.
