Haycock Hello 3.17.25

st patty

Dear Haycock Families,

We enjoyed having Kathleen Otal, counselor from McLean HS, Thaisa York, counselor from Longfellow, and Steven Myers, from the Office of Counseling and College and Career Readiness, on Friday for our March Parent Coffee.  Here are the slides from that informative presentation about how parents can be involved in educational decision making for their child.  They provided lots of suggestions about what parents of elementary school students can do to set their student up for success in high school, college, and beyond.

We are excited to support the PTA Boosterthon this week.  We know how much the PTA supports our school and provides so many wonderful opportunities for our students.  This year, the Boosterthon funds raised will be used to replace our aging and often nonfunctional kiln for the art department and our aging risers used for concerts. Come join us to help out at the Fun Run on Friday, March 21 during your child's specials time. Thank you for your generous support of this PTA event.

We loved meeting our incoming Kindergarten students and their families this afternoon for our Kindergarten Orientation.  Our newest Cougars are amazing, and we can't wait for them to join us in August!

Happy St. Patrick's Day to all🍀

With appreciation for your partnership,

Liz Beaty, Principal embeaty@fcps.edu

Heather Boyd, AP   HABoyd@fcps.edu

Krystal Styles, AP   krstyles@fcps.edu

Birthday Treat Reminder

We love celebrating every student's birthday during the school year. However, we ask that you not send in baked goods for your child's class on their birthday.  This is due to many students having allergies and food restrictions. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Calling all Future Longfellow Lancer Families!

Please join us for an informative and engaging Parent & Student Panel on Tuesday, March 25th at 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria.  You will hear from current Longfellow students and parents that came from Haycock Elementary.  They will share what to expect as you transition to 7th grade such as classes, homework, clubs and activities, making new friends, and managing lockers. Parents will also have the opportunity to ask questions and learn about resources available to support their child's transition to middle school. This is a fantastic chance to get a head start and ease any anxieties about the exciting journey ahead. We look forward to seeing you there!

Haycock PTA Boosterthon Fun Run

The Haycock Fun Run Fundraiser had a great kickoff this past week. The indoor Fun Run will be this Friday, March 21! It will be an exciting glow run event with music, dancing and tons of fun. Register your student TODAY on mybooster.com. They’ll earn a free gift and you’ll get access to all the fun features to share and donate toward our school goal of $35,000 for new risers for concerts and a new kiln for the art room! All students will have the opportunity to participate in the Fun Run.

You are invited to cheer on your kids during the Fun Run during their specials period. Or, you can help by tallying the students’ laps as they encourage them! Volunteer here!

Donations will go toward supporting our school and can be given throughout the entire experience. There is no pressure to give, but we invite you to help our school by sharing our fundraiser with your family and friends. This year, we are excited to offer participants in raffles for gift cards to Lazy Mike's, Doodlehopper, an electric scooter, and tickets to Medieval Times and Six Flags!

FCPS Budget — Our Students Deserve the Best

More than $240 million of FCPS’ Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Advertised Budget is dedicated to increasing compensation for our teachers and staff to stay competitive and reduce turnover. Currently, FCPS ranks fifth out of eight neighboring districts in regards to starting salary for teachers with a master’s degree.

Our families expect — and our students deserve — the best teachers.

Next Steps in the Budget Process

The next steps in the FCPS FY 2026 Budget process include the School Board presenting the budget to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, April 22, and then the Board of Supervisors will conduct public hearings Tuesday, April 22, through Thursday, April 24. Community members can submit testimony or sign up to speak.

Visit the county government website to view the Fairfax County FY 2026 Advertised Budget. The community is also invited to complete an online survey to provide feedback on the county’s FY 2026 Advertised Budget.

Learn more about the FCPS FY 2026 Budget process.

🛑 Cameras Installed on School Bus Stop Arms

Cameras have been installed on the stop arms of 50 FCPS school buses. These cameras will be used to identify drivers who pass stopped school buses while children are entering and exiting the bus (called a “stop arm violation”).

Warnings for drivers will begin on Wednesday, April 9. After a 30-day warning period, citations will begin to be issued on Monday, May 12.

The FCPS CARES Program allows parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees who go above and beyond to help others and show they care about their students, colleagues, and the community. We invite you to submit a story below to acknowledge the great work of an FCPS employee or group of employees who should receive FCPS CARES recognition.
