March 19 Family Newsletter
Dear Families,
Thank you to everyone for your support and communication regarding Monday's early release. It was our smoothest yet! Check out some of our photos below of St. Patrick's Day and our 6th Grade Volleyball Game.
This evening our PTA will be meeting virtually at 7:00 pm on Zoom. Families are welcome to join.
This Friday, March 21st is World Down Syndrome Day. Students and staff are encouraged to wear mismatched socks.
As a reminder, if you, a neighbor or a friend have a rising kindergartener, please see information below regarding registration and our orientation on Monday, April 28th. Having students and families registered in a timely manner allows us to ensure we have adequate staffing to support rising kindergarteners.

Autism Acceptance Stations in PE
Union Mill Elementary is hosting our Autism Acceptance Stations on April 3rd and 4th. We need volunteers on both days for morning and afternoon sessions: 8:45–11:45am and 12:10-3:15pm. The sign-up to volunteer is linked here.
Thank you for helping build our awareness and acceptance of all learners!
UMES Get 2 Green Mandalas
Union Mill 2nd to 6th graders explored temporary art by creating mandalas, learning about their symbolic meaning of harmony and balance. They collaborated to choose natural materials like leaves, flowers, and stones, reflecting their connection to nature. As they worked together, they applied symmetry to create a balanced design, fostering teamwork, patience, and communication. The project emphasized the impermanence of art, as the mandala was meant to fade naturally, teaching students that beauty and experiences are fleeting yet valuable.
Thank you to Mrs. Hollis and Mrs. Schroder for their collaboration with FCPS Get 2 Green and one another to make this happen!
Friday, April 4th - Principal's Coffee - Neurodiversity Focus
We are looking forward to hosting our next morning meeting and Principal's Coffee on Friday, April 4th. Our coffee will begin at 9:20am with some light snacks and coffee in the cafeteria. Connect with other families to learn more about celebrating diverse minds. We'll explore some principles of neurodiversity and how they benefit all students. Come share your experiences and build a supportive community. All families are welcome.
