Greetings Key Families,
Congratulations on reaching the end of the third quarter! I am proud of our students’ hard work and effort this quarter and am excited to celebrate their successes! In the coming weeks, we will begin preparing students for their SOL exams and other end-of-year assessments, so please be on the lookout for communications from your student’s teachers about opportunities for additional support.
As you knw, Monday was a student and staff holiday and Tuesday is a teacher workday and student holiday, so students will return to Key MS on Wednesday, April 2. To those families who celebrated Eid on Monday, on behalf of the Key MS community, Eid Mubarak!
Sincerely,
Drew Campbell

Cat B Student Play Performance
Thank you to our Cat B students and Theatre teacher, Ms. Promisel, for putting on a wonderful stage performance.
King Arthur Flour Visits Key MS
Key MS Family & Consumer Sciences department hosted a King Arthur Flour presentation that focused on the science of bread making for the entire 7th grade class.
This was the start of "Bread Building Bridges".
King Arthur flour not only teaches students how to make bread, but also provided students with a kit to make their own bread which is in turn shared with the surrounding community in need. The art of breadmaking transcends cultural and social barriers fostering connections between people with differing skill sets, opinions and backgrounds.
Following the presentation all 7th graders received a bag of supplies to make the bread recipe that had been demonstrated. The loaves of bread were to be shared with their community.

School Start Times Survey
⏰ Coming Soon: School Start Times Survey
Last year, FCPS held community forums and surveyed middle school families regarding middle school start times. Now, we would like to hear from all staff and families on the possibility of adjusting school start times across the division. The goal remains to begin middle school at 8 a.m. or later at the start of the 2026-27 school year.
On April 1, a survey link will be sent by email to staff, parents/caregivers, and students in grades 5-12. The confidential survey will be open for two weeks and will be available in multiple languages.

Zero Waste at Key MS
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to announce a new initiative that will be launching in March as part of our ongoing commitment to becoming a zero-waste school. To support this goal and foster a greater sense of community, we will be introducing a Shared Table in the cafeteria.
The Shared Table will provide a space for students to place non-perishable, unopened food items that they are not able to finish. These items will be available for others who may need them, helping to reduce food waste while encouraging students to support one another. This initiative aligns with our efforts to promote sustainability, responsibility, and kindness within our school community. We believe it will not only reduce waste, but also teach our students valuable lessons about sharing and caring for others.
We kindly ask for your support in discussing the importance of mindful consumption with your child and encourage them to participate in this initiative when it begins. Together, we can make a positive impact on both our environment and our school community.
Thank you for your continued support.
V/r,
Skyy Bollers

Title I Parent Advisory Committee
Patriot Community-
This is a friendly reminder that we need a Title I Parent Advisory Committee representative for your school ASAP. Please email Debbie Vel (dsvel@fcps.edu) if you are interested in supporting Key MS in this capacity.
The representative should be a parent who is able to attend each meeting and relay important information back to the school. This is also a great opportunity to advocate for any resources our school may need. Meetings will be held in a hybrid format, so our representative can attend either virtually or in person once a month.
You may also complete this google form if you would like to sign up.
Meeting dates are listed below, and they will take place from 7:00 – 8:30 pm.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Debbie Vel at dsvel@fcps.edu.
