Centreville Students, Families, and Community,
Over the past few months, I have emphasized our key priorities: ensuring high-quality instruction in all settings, fostering a positive school climate, and growing together as a community. Each week, I continue to see these priorities come to life across Wildcat Nation. Whether we're celebrating the accomplishments of our talented artists and musicians, offering our juniors opportunities to plan for their futures, or witnessing the inclusivity of our Unified Basketball Team, I am incredibly proud of the work we are doing every day.
One area where we still need support from families is emphasizing the importance of regular and on-time attendance. While our START on Time initiative has shown positive results, the partnership we share with parents and guardians remains essential to our continued success. This will be especially important as we head into warmer weather and the final stretch of the school year. I truly appreciate your ongoing efforts to have conversations with your students about the value of consistent and timely attendance.
Looking forward, I hope you will join us at our monthly PTSA meeting this Tuesday, March 11 at 7:00PM in the Library. Additionally, CVHS PTSA is hoping to provide a fun, St. Patrick's Day-themed perk to the 300 wonderful staff members of CVHS. They plan to provide cookies along with chocolate coins on Monday, March 17th as a token of appreciation for our staff. However, the PTSA needs your help to make this plan come to fruition! Please consider making a donation using this SignUp Genius link to support these efforts.
Thank you and Go Wildcats!

Become Unskippable: Practical Guidance for Talking With Teens About Fentanyl: Teens skip things that don't interest them, including lectures from their parents. How do you connect with your children and really know what's going on in their lives? How can you become “unskippable”?
Effective communication can build trust and understanding, but it takes thought, planning, and effort.
The latest Healthy Minds Blog offers practical strategies to improve communication and build strong, lasting relationships:
-
Ditch distractions and create a safe space where your child feels comfortable opening up.
-
Listen actively and validate their feelings, even if you don't agree.
-
Ask "how" questions instead of "what" questions to get them talking about their experiences.
For more tips and techniques, read the full article on the Healthy Minds Blog, which shares information related to youth mental health and wellness.

Service Learning Reminders and Updates: Seniors- all service hours must be VERIFIED by an adult in x2vol by APRIL 21st to be approved before graduation
- Service learning is not required for graduation
- A minimum of 40 hours is required for a service cord
- A minimum of 50 hours is required towards Civics and Science seals
Helpful tips for all students:
- For an activity that you do consistently, please enter ONE submission every few months. Include the date range of that activity (ie. every Saturday from 10am-12pm from Jan. 6, 2024 to May 4, 2024) that adds up to the total number of hours claimed.
- If a parent directly oversees your activity as a part of the sponsoring organization, please indicate that in the description (ie. SYA soccer coach, Girl Scout troop leader, etc). Otherwise, the verifier should be an adult who is not related to you. It cannot be a classmate.
- The description should include your responsibilities as a volunteer and how you spent your time in that service learning activity. It can be 1-2 sentences.
- The reflection should include how you felt and how your volunteerism impacted others. It can be brief but thorough. It should not be a duplicate of your description.
- If you select the science goal in your entry, be sure that your volunteerism is directly related to the application of science (ie. glass recycling, invasive plant management, storm drain labeling, etc.).
More details are on the Service Learning page of the CVHS website: https://centrevillehs.fcps.edu/student-life-activities/service-learning
