Message from the Principal
Dear Langley Families,
Things are warming up at Langley, and our spring activities are approaching. As we enter the final stretch of the school year, students have many opportunities to shine through participation in our fine arts, performing arts, sports, and service activities.
Furthermore, I’m pleased to share that during my visits to our classrooms, I observe outstanding teaching and learning, where students develop their hard and soft skills. From student presentations and class simulations to labs and layered discourse models, I have been truly impressed by the efforts of our staff and students.
Parking
I wanted to inform you that I have initiated a comprehensive review of our parking operations, including a new parking lot survey, a review of our permit process, and a daily use model, to proactively manage this valuable yet limited resource for our staff, students, and community. We continue to issue tickets, which remains a concern. I have also installed parking and towing warnings in the lot.
Arrivals
I hope you have noticed a significant improvement in our Kiss and Ride flow each morning. Please continue using the Kiss and Ride system to drop off and pick up your students, as the parking lot is not a safe or appropriate alternative. Please move up close to Door #14 for student drop-off to ensure a smooth and safe process.
Purple Up
April is dedicated to honoring Military Families. We will celebrate with a “Purple Up!” day on April 9th. We encourage students, teachers, and staff to wear purple, representing a blend of colors from different military branches. This event is another step toward achieving our “Purple School” status as a welcoming and supportive destination for our military families.
Thank you for your continued support,
Mr. Stroud
Student Attendance Reporting
-
All Day Absences: The Attendance feature in ParentVUE is the FCPS secure web solution for reporting all day absences.
Partial Absence: To report late arrivals, early dismissals, or to update already submitted attendance, please email LangleyHSAttendance@fcps.edu.
How to Report an Absence Through ParentVUE
Please send a note with the student, instructing them to take it directly to the attendance office. They will receive a pass to be excused from class at the time you’ve indicated. It is the student's responsibility to leave class promptly at the stated time.
If your student does not have a note, you may sign in and go to the attendance office to check them out in person. Please understand that it may take up to 30 minutes for the check-out process if it is unexpected.
Please note we are unable to accommodate last-minute early releases after 2:30 p.m.

Eating Disorder Parent Information
In 2013, Virginia passed a law requiring every school system to provide information to parents annually about eating disorders with parents/guardians of students in the fifth through twelfth grades.
According to the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA 2023), Eating disorders are serious but treatable mental and physical illnesses that can affect people of all genders, ages, races, religions, ethnicities, sexual orientations, body shapes, and weights. In the United States, 28.8 million Americans will suffer from an eating disorder at some point in their lives. There is no single cause of an eating disorder. Rather, it is a complex combination of biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors that converge and set off an individual’s predisposed genetic vulnerability.
In collaboration with the Fairfax County Health Department, FCPS has developed a web page with detailed information and resources about eating disorders. To find out more, please visit the FCPS Eating Disorders website.
In addition to the information on the FCPS website, the National Eating Disorders Association has a toll free, confidential Helpline, 1-800-931-2237.
