A Message from the PTA President
Dear families,
We had a very successful Spelling Bee last Friday on February 28, 2025! Thank you all for coming out and supporting the spellers. Congratulations to our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners and to all spellers that participated! We could not have this event without the leadership of Mrs. Casey Trull, Spelling Bee Coordinator, Ms. Ashley High, the Pronouncer and Mrs. Trull’s friend, and our wonderful judges, Mrs. Carrie Bartlett, Mrs. Anna Taleysnik, and Ms. Melissa Smarr (Mrs. Gibbs’ sister).
1st Place: Saifan Iqbal (2nd time winner will represent HVES in the Fairfax County Bee on March 23, 2025)
2nd Place: Goodali Erdenebaatar
3rd Place: Antonio Balzano
On that same February 28 day, one of our Hunt Valley students, Connor Huber, won 1st place at the Fairfax County level for his poem “Welcome” in the PTA Reflections Program - Accessible Arts Division. The ceremony took place at Lake Braddock where he received the Outstanding Interpretation Award from the Fairfax County PTA for his Reflections Entry. His entry advanced to the States level - the Virginia PTA where he won the Merit Award (3rd place).
Your child may have come home with “new” books recently. To celebrate National Read Across America Week 2025, the PTA hosted a book swap on Tuesday, March 4. Students excitedly selected from a wide array of books generously donated by our families. Special thanks to Mrs. Kate Johnson for leading this event, and to all the volunteers who helped organize and assist students in finding books to take home. Recognition goes to Nina Landes, Ashley Gusich, Dusti Ward, Andrianne Konstas, Sam Bristol, Christina Clevenger, Shelby Galinski, Kacie Jones, Paula Spears, Katherine Copeland, and Jessica Urbon.

Hunt Valley 3rd Annual Wellness Fair
When: Join us for our 3rd annual Wellness Fair on Thursday, March 13th from 6-7:30pm!
What: Our community and school have partnered together to promote a balanced lifestyle focusing on fitness, mindfulness, and nutrition. Entry is free. We look forward to celebrating wellness with you! We could still use some parent volunteers to ensure the event runs smoothly. President: Collaborate with the board to set PTA goals aligned with school needs, lead meetings, oversee the board & committees, partner with the school admin, teachers, and staff, work with the Treasurer to manage funds transparently, and support committee event planning and program management

Treasurer: Managing the PTA's finances, including collecting and depositing income, maintaining accurate financial records, creating and monitoring the budget, paying bills, preparing financial reports, and ensuring proper accounting procedures are followed.

The chair positions must be filled if we are to continue to hold the same great events next year. Please reach out if you're able to help support your PTA. If you were the chair this year and would like to continue next year, please let us know so we can mark that position as filled. We do not want to assume that you will continue next year :).
