Message from Mr. Greata

This past week was National School Social Work Week, and we want to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to Shannon Cassidy-Reed, Amy Young, and Kaitlin Collier for the incredible work they do every day to support our students. Our dedicated social workers play a crucial role in helping prevent social, emotional, and behavioral challenges from impacting student success and provide invaluable resources both in and out of school. Thank you for all that you do!

Winter sports are showing no signs of slowing down as our athletes continue to shine in the postseason! A huge congratulations to our boys' basketball team for capturing the regional title with a victory over Hayfield Secondary School this past Friday night. Their journey continues tonight in the state semifinal against Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, VA, at 6:00 p.m. If you can make it, grab your tickets online!

Our Swim & Dive and Indoor Track teams also had phenomenal performances at their state competitions last week, bringing home multiple state medals and titles. Check out the full list of accolades on our recognition webpage and special congratulations to Nathaniel Grannis for winning his second (back to back) state diving title.

In more state news - Congratulations to Valerie Gutierrez for taking second place in the Marketing Communications Series at the DECA state competition, qualifying her for the National competition!

On the academic front, our seniors braved the wind and rain this past Wednesday for their annual trip to Capitol Hill. They attended committee meetings, met elected officials, and covered a lot of ground—one student logged over six miles! While some sore feet may have followed, the experience was well worth it. Thank you to all our government teachers for your planning of this memorable trip!

Join us this weekend for our Woodson Drama production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee! Showtimes are: 📅 Friday at 7:00 p.m. 📅 Saturday at 1:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m. 🎟️ Tickets are available online or at the door—don’t miss it!

With Daylight Savings Time this Sunday, Monday’s Spirit Week theme: "Sleepy Hair, Don’t Care—Just Roll Out of Bed!" is perfectly imperfect! Check out the Spirit Week schedule below for the rest of the themes and don’t forget to set your clocks ahead one hour!

Set your clock and mark your calendars for March 14—our annual FanQuest is coming up! The tailgate kicks off at 5:00 p.m., followed by tipoff at 6:30 p.m. in the main gym.

Finally, we want to wish our Deaf Academic Bowl Team the best of luck as they compete in the East Regional Competition this weekend in Frederick Maryland!

Ramadan Mubarak to all those in our community that are observing Ramadan and I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Woodson student places Second at DECA States

Congratulations to all of our Woodson students who brought home medals from DECA States!

Daylight Saving Time Begins (Spring Forward)

Sunday, March 9, at 2 a.m., daylight saving time begins. Don’t forget to move your clocks ahead one hour!

As a result of the time change, many students will be walking to school or to bus stops in the dark. Help your child stay safe by having them wear reflective clothing and bright or light colors, or add reflective items to their backpacks or clothes. Also, encourage your child to be especially alert for cars that are turning or backing up and not to run into the street or cross between parked cars.
