From all of us at Powell, we are deeply grateful to everyone who joined our Iftar event on Thursday night. It was a beautiful evening of community and reflection, and we were honored to host over 200 students and parents.
A special, heartfelt thank you goes out to the amazing parents who poured their hearts into organizing this event. Your leadership and dedication made it all possible! And to everyone who lovingly contributed delicious food, creating a truly bountiful and joyful meal – your generosity was deeply appreciated.
Thank you, each and every one of you, for sharing your time and a meal with us. It was a truly special gathering, and we're so grateful you were a part of it. We cherish the sense of community we felt, and we look forward to more moments like these in the future.

To ensure transparency and celebrate our progress, we will be sharing weekly attendance data in our newsletter. By highlighting this important information, we aim to keep our families informed and energized about our collective efforts to reduce absenteeism and prevent students from becoming chronically absent.
Chronic absenteeism is when a student has missed 10% or more of the school days in the school year. This includes all absences, regardless of whether they are excused and unexcused. Research shows that students who are chronically absent are at higher risk of falling behind and dropping out of school.
We care deeply about all of our students and aim for success for each student. Our partnership to support regular school attendance is critical to that success. Please follow the health policy and send your children to school every day.

- Number of students present EVERY DAY: 87 – That’s 10%
- Number of students NOT currently chronically absent: 784 – That’s 91%
- Number of students currently chronically absent (missed 10% of the school days so far this year): 75
- Number of unexcused & travel related absences: 1,033
Earlier this week our school was filled with the special energy of our youngest learners as we hosted our Kindergarten and First Grade Portrait of a Graduate (POG) Meetings! It was a delight to see so many parents join us, eager to witness firsthand the blossoming of crucial POG skills and attributes in their children.
We were thrilled to observe the joyful interactions between students and parents during these meetings. The shared moments of discovery, the excited explanations, and the pure enthusiasm were truly heartwarming!
Thank you, parents, for dedicating your time to participate in these important meetings. Your presence and support are invaluable in strengthening the essential partnership between home and school, especially during these foundational years. By working together, we are laying the groundwork for our students to become confident, curious, and well-rounded individuals, fully prepared to embrace the learning journey ahead.
We are excited to continue nurturing these collaborative learning experiences as the year progresses!

Rising Kindergarten students and parents are invited to attend our Kindergarten Orientation. Families will have the opportunity to meet our Principal and our Assistant Principals, along with our Kindergarten Team who will share some ideas for how to prepare your child for school next year.
While parents meet with our staff, the rising Kindergarteners will do an activity in the Kindergarten classrooms and then rejoin parents later.
Kindergarten enrollment is in progress! If you have not enrolled your child for the 2025-2026 school year, please call the office at 571-522-6000 or email our Registrar, Regina Johnson (rljohnson2@fcps.edu) to schedule an appointment.
Do you know a neighbor with a rising kindergartner? Please encourage them to contact Colin Powell so we have accurate numbers for staffing our classes for next year!
We look forward to seeing you April 1st, 2025 at 10:30 a.m.
Celebrate Read Across America Month with an Exciting Reading Challenge!
Students who choose to participate should complete one row on the bingo sheet—this can be horizontal, vertical, or diagonal. Once finished, they can return their completed sheets to the library for a prize! Let the adventure of reading commence!
Students can get a copy of the reading challenge sheet from their teacher or the library.
We need you! Please consider signing up to display your culture/background at Diversity Night on April 4 from 6:30-8:00pm. Families will be able to showcase their culture through displays, food, crafts/games, and more. Also, we will have a Diversity Parade, where students can showcase their culture’s traditional attire or any attire/flag/outfit that makes them unique! Sign up to set up a display or bring food HERE
