Principals' Message

Admin Renovation Photo

Dear Brookfield Community,

We hope this message finds you well and looking forward to a bright weekend!

We are thrilled to reflect on a truly wonderful Read Across America week. It was a joy to see our students immersed in stories, discovering new worlds, and celebrating the magic of reading. Each day was filled with engaging activities and school spirit that reminded us that every day is a great day to curl up with a good book.

Books are more than just words on a page; they are portals to imagination, knowledge, and understanding. They allow us to explore different perspectives, learn about diverse cultures, and connect with characters who inspire us. Stories matter because they shape our understanding of the world and one another, while fostering empathy, and igniting our creativity. They are the threads that weave together our shared human experience.

We also want to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who attended our PTA meeting this past Tuesday. It's always a pleasure to connect with our families and discuss how we can continue to support our students. Your partnership is invaluable, and we appreciate your commitment to our school community.

Furthermore, Thursday night's Family Science Night was a resounding success! We were delighted to see such a fantastic turnout and witness the excitement as families explored the many engaging science stations. A huge thank you to the Children's Science Center for bringing their incredible expertise and interactive exhibits to our school. We are also deeply grateful to our dedicated staff and family volunteers who made the event possible. Your hard work and enthusiasm created a truly memorable evening of learning and discovery.

As you may have noticed, construction fencing was added this week along the perimeter of our school grounds. This fencing marks the construction pathway and staging area for our upcoming renovations. With construction will come some noise, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we move forward. We will continue to keep you posted as new developments occur and provide timely updates throughout the process. We remain excited for this journey and are fully focused on maintaining student safety and ensuring continued academic success throughout the renovation period.

As we head into the weekend, we wish you all a relaxing and enjoyable time. Please remember that Daylight Saving Time begins this Sunday, so don't forget to "Spring Forward!"

Thank you for being such a supportive and engaged school community. We look forward to more enriching experiences together.

Sincerely,

Lesley Hassen, Principal

Margaret Sisler, Assistant Principal

Anthony Ramakis, Assistant Principal

📣 Third Graders Take on Story Problems!

Maguire

In Ms. Maguire’s class, students are sharpening their math skills by solving story problems—on computers and on paper! These challenges help them decide whether to add, subtract, multiply, or divide while also expanding their understanding of bigger numbers.

We’re proud of our students for thinking critically and building strong math skills!

What to see it in action?  Check it out on Youtube!

🗓️ Calendar Reminders - Daylight Savings Begins (Spring Forward)

spacer

Sunday, March 9, at 2 a.m., daylight saving time begins. Don’t forget to move your clocks ahead one hour! As a result of the time change, many students will be walking to school or to bus stops in the dark. Help your child stay safe by having them wear reflective clothing and bright or light colors, or add reflective items to their backpacks or clothes. Also, encourage your child to be especially alert for cars that are turning or backing up and not to run into the street or cross between parked cars.

🗓️ Early Release Monday

Reminder that Monday, March 17 is an early release day.

Virginia Run will dismiss students at 1:00 PM.

Any changes to your child’s dismissal for this day must be communicated to the main office at 703-814-8700.

The FCPS Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Advertised Budget invests in academic growth and excellence for each and every student, which is one of the priorities of the FCPS Strategic Plan

Preparing for Tough Conversations With Teens

Discussing tough topics like fentanyl and other drugs can feel challenging — no matter how close you are with your child. Explain to your teen that it’s important to learn about fentanyl so they know what to do if a friend overdoses. Prepare in advance with the tips below:

  • Set the stage. Choose a casual environment that’s free from distractions. Talk while driving, taking a walk, or doing chores together.
  • Make it a two-way discussion. Ask open-ended questions.
  • Stay patient and reserve judgment.
  • Check in with your child early and often.

Visit our website for more information on how to Become Unskippable with your teens.
