Meet Me at the Library, March 4th Tonight
5:00pm-6:00pm

We are excited to be partnering with WETA to host our next Meet Me at the Library event at the Kings Park Public Library!  This event is a great opportunity for families to listen to stories, play some games, and participate in activities to promote literacy, math, problem solving skills - and this month - MUSIC!  This event will showcase fun ways to integrate more music and rhythm into daily life and education. On Tuesday, March 4th, families are invited to the Kings Park Public Library (9000 Burke Lake Rd, Burke, VA 22015) at 5:00 PM for an hour-long session focusing on Music and Singing with some amazing Kings Park teachers and staff. This is a free event for Kings Park students.  Every student that attends will receive a free book from WETA.  We hope to see you in the Community Meeting Room at the Kings Park Public Library TONIGHT, March 4h at 5:00!

Book Fair Header

Spring Book Fair, Mar 6-14  Fair Night, March 13th 5:00-7:00pm

Our spring fair begins this week! The fair will run Thursday, March 6th - Friday, March 14th. Students will have the opportunity to shop the fair from March 10th - March 14th during their library time as well as during the following times: Tuesday – Friday 8:30 – 9:30 , Tuesday – Friday 11:45 – 12:15, and Tuesday – Thursday 2:40 – 3:10 . We will also be open after school until 7:00pm on Thursday, March 13th. We strongly encourage parents to make an eWallet for their child through our Scholastic fair website, this will allow your child to shop the fair without having to bring in cash! Any unused funds get converted to a Scholastic gift card at the end of the fair. If you are interested in volunteering during our fair please sign up here.  We are looking forward to another great event!

STEAM Night, March 13th 5:00pm-6:30pm

Join us for STEAM Night, March 13th 5:300-6:30pm in the Kings Park Cafeteria. We will be showcasing the hands on STEAM and Strategies Lab activities students have been participating in from kindergarten to 3rd grade this year as well as  maker activities.

STEAM Night Materials Needed

Get2Green will be holding a Makerspace workshop at STEAM Night again this year on March 13th where students can build either a Junk Bot or a Junk Bug.  The purpose of this activity is to inspire young artists to use found materials to create art. The Get2Green leaders need your help collecting materials. If you can send in any of the following items below, that would be much appreciated. There will be collection boxes in the LOBBY.  Thanks in advance for your help!

Junk Items Needed by MARCH 12th

  • Cereal/oatmeal/snack boxes (small cardboard boxes)
  • Toilet paper and paper towel tubes
  • Egg cartons
  • Milk cartons and jugs
  • Bottle caps
  • Berry Containers (plastic and cartons) 
  • Water/soda bottles

Month of the Military Child

April is the Month of the Military Child, a time to honor and celebrate the resilience, courage, and contributions of FCPS military-connected children.

To show our support, FCPS will celebrate Purple Up! Day on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. Please note that this date has been adjusted to align with our spring break schedule. On this day, school staff and students are encouraged to wear purple, symbolizing unity and support for military families across all service branches.

Purchase the FCPS Purple Up! T-shirt and/or hoodie between now and March 7 to wear on Purple Up! Day! Please share this link with your offices and school communities.

Please note, the cost of shipping and handling is per shipping address. You may consider arranging bulk orders. 

Kindergarten Orientation, Thursday April 3rd

We are excited to welcome our rising Kindergarteners for the 2025-2026 school year. Kindergarten Orientation for incoming kindergarten students and their parents will be held on Thursday, April 3rd,.

Details are in the works and more info to come. Please save the date and mark your calendars! If you have a child who will be age 5 on or before September 30, 2020, then it is time to register your child for the 2025-2026 school year. 

We request that you begin the registration process as soon as possible so we know to anticipate you.

Student Fasting Meal Kits for Feb 28 - Mar 28

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has issued a new, first-time waiver allowing students fasting during the school day from February 28 to March 28, 2025, to request take-home breakfast and lunch meal kits. The Office of Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) will provide meal kits reflecting the school menu. Meals will be kept cold and must be heated at home. Students may claim one breakfast and one lunch kit per day.

If a student purchases breakfast or lunch at school, they cannot pick up a kit that day. Meal kits must be picked up by students at the end of the school day—adults cannot collect them. Parents or guardians must submit a weekly request form via the FCPS FNS website by the deadlines:

  • March 10, 2025, for the week of March 17, 2025
  • March 17, 2025, for the week of March 24, 2025

*Forms must be submitted on time to receive meal kits for the following week.

PTA News

The PTA has put together the slate of afterschool activities for the spring.  Kings Park will offer robotics, zumba, karate golf, music ensemble, and chess.  Kings Glen will offer minecraft programming, run fit kits, Girls on the Run, drama club, and piano.  Fliers with details and registration information have come home, and all the information is posted on our website, including links to register.  Sign-up todayScholarships available - please reach out to your school counselors.

InCourage will be hosting another Parents Night Out Spirit Night on Friday, March 14th from 6:30-8:30PM.  Pizza will be provided; $35/child.  Register at bit.ly/burkeevents.

Our annual Baskets & Bingo is coming up on Friday, March 21st at Lake Braddock SS.  This family fun event will feature FREE bingo, and themed baskets that will be raffled off.  If you have any questions, please email baskets@kpkgpta.orgOwn a local business and want to donate to our event?  Please reach out to Sarah at vpfund@kpkgpta.org.

The PTA Board is looking for a new VP, Events to join us for the 2025-2026 school year.  Please reach out if you’re interested in learning more!

We will be hosting our “Ready, Tech, Go!” Workshop on Thursday, April 3rd, from 6:30-8PM at KPES.  This event is provided through funding from the National PTA, and will feature FREE childcare and a light dinner.  Please pre-register so we know to expect you.  The event, targeted at parents/caregivers of elementary aged students, will foster peer-to-peer discussion reflection on various aspects of screen readiness.  More information is on our website.
