More than $240 million of FCPS’ Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Advertised Budget is dedicated to increasing compensation for our teachers and staff to stay competitive and reduce turnover. Currently, FCPS ranks fifth out of eight neighboring districts in regards to starting salary for teachers with a master’s degree.
Our families expect — and our students deserve — the best teachers.
Next Steps in the Budget Process
The next steps in the FCPS FY 2026 Budget process include the School Board presenting the budget to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, April 22, and then the Board of Supervisors will conduct public hearings Tuesday, April 22, through Thursday, April 24. Community members can submit testimony or sign up to speak.
Visit the county government website to view the Fairfax County FY 2026 Advertised Budget. The community is also invited to complete an online survey to provide feedback on the county’s FY 2026 Advertised Budget.

What to expect on picture day
- When an order is placed online, the parent/guardian will receive a camera pass via email. This can either be printed or texted to the student and brought to picture day. The photographer will photograph the printed camera pass along with the student.
- If a student is not able to print their camera pass, that is not a problem. We will match up the student to their order manually in the production process.
- A parent may order from the flyer up until 24 hours after picture day. After 24 hours, the online ordering access may close. This will allow our imaging team to "Pull" all orders submitted and match them with the students photographed.
- When pictures are returned to school, all students that purchased pictures will receive their prepaid package. Any student that was photographed but did not order a package, will receive a "Proof" (PX) of their picture that was taken on picture day.
All proof packages offer parents a second opportunity to order prints. All orders are subject to shipping and handling costs of up to $8.50 and will be shipped directly to home.
The FCPS CARES Program allows the community to recognize FCPS employees who go above and beyond! We invite you to submit a story below to acknowledge the great work of a BMP employee or group of employees who should receive recognition.
Submit an FCPS CARES today!
Here is what you need to know:
- Submissions are entered through StaffConnect. Select “I want to submit a(n)” and scroll to “FCPS Cares Submission.” The report will use the word “incident,” which is a generic term for all submissions, regardless of type.
- A notification email, with the submission text included, will be sent to the recipient(s) and copied to the recipient's supervisor(s).
- All submissions will be posted to our FCPS CARES webpage and shared via other FCPS news outlets.
Hi Families! Guess what? The spring Book Fair is coming soon! Information will be coming home in Thursday folders over the next few weeks, but I also wanted to give you information now so you can start your planning.
The students will be previewing the book fair on Thursday, April 3 and Friday, April 4 and making their wish lists. We will begin selling books on Monday, April 7 and wrap up the fair on the morning of Friday, April 11. I will open the fair up after school Monday, April 7 through Thursday, April 10 from 4 to 5 p.m. for family shopping. I will also stay open through Kindergarten orientation on April 10. Here is a link to the book fair website with general information: https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/brenmarparkelemschool
I would LOVE to have any volunteers! I always need support with organizing the books and helping kids find the books they want. I especially love people who can help students in the younger grades shop within their budget. I made a sign-up genius and if you’re able to donate an hour or two of your time, I would very much appreciate it! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/904044BADA623A46-55689446-spring
We will take cash, checks, and credit cards at the book fair. If you’d rather not send money with your child, you can set up an ewallet at this link: https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/content/fairs/how-ewallet-works.html?fairId=5729258
If you are able, we would also love donations to our Share the Fair donation fund. This fund helps me to invite all the kids who weren’t able to get a book at the fair to come and choose one for free. I make sure that all BMP kids get at least one book, and this donation fund helps with that. I appreciate any amount you are able to give. Here’s the link: https://shop.scholastic.com/stf/fund?orgUCN=600102171
Thank you for supporting the book fair! All proceeds go to purchase new books and library supplies for our students. Happy reading!!
Cameras have been installed on the stop arms of 50 FCPS school buses. These cameras will be used to identify drivers who pass stopped school buses while children are entering and exiting the bus (called a “stop arm violation”).
Warnings for drivers will begin on Wednesday, April 9. After a 30-day warning period, citations will begin to be issued on Monday, May 12.
According to Virginia law, drivers must stop for stopped school buses with flashing red lights on and their stop signs extended. Motorists should stop when approaching from any direction (unless there is a barrier or median separating their lane from where the bus is stopped). They should remain stopped until everyone is clear and the bus is moving.
We appreciate our law enforcement partners for working with us to improve road safety and reduce accidents. Read more information about the stop arm cameras and all of the ways that we work with our county partners to keep students safe on their way to and from school.
Registration will be available soon for summer camps offered by Fairfax County Public Schools for all students. Career and Technical Education (CTE) camps and Institute for the Arts (IFTA) camps will be held in July at Lake Braddock Secondary School from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bus transportation will be available from select FCPS middle and high schools. Registration begins for these programs on Monday, March 10, and ends Friday, June 6.
Tech Adventure Camp (TAC) is a week-long exploratory camp designed to allow current K-5 students to explore activities in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math), culinary arts, health, trades, and business and marketing areas. Watch this video about CTE camps.
E-IFTA is a weekly arts camp for students in grades 2-5 who love to sing, dance, act, perform, make, and create. Students take part in four daily classes related to dance, music, theater, and visual art. They work with FCPS fine arts teachers who create fun and engaging classes.
For more information, see the Summer Learning page.
No summer programming will be offered at Bren Mar Park, including Rec-PAC, due to the construction. SOAR summer programs, by invitation, will be hosted at Weyanoke Elementary School.

Are you interested in being on a Renovation Purchasing Decision Committee? Staff and families who express interest will be invited to sit in on sales pitches around different school-based design decisions, such as student desks and chairs, office seating, etc. They will share their feedback and recommendation on styles, colors, design and overall preferred purchases. Input will be taken into consideration for the final decision-making. Much of this will take place on different days throughout the summer months; it would be ok if an interested person could not attend all of the presentations.
If you are interested in being considered for this opportunity, please email Principal Williams.

Hi there BMP!! This is my 3rd year at BMP with our youngest Mustangs. I’ve spent 20+ years in special education.
I live in Alexandria with my husband, 3 kids and a few pets you’ll hear about frequently! In my free time, I enjoy cooking, walking and I’m a huge Washington sports fan!
