Dear Poplar Tree Families,
We hope you're having a wonderful week!
We'd like to send a friendly reminder about bringing toys to school. While we know many toys are fun and engaging, they can unfortunately become a distraction to learning during the school day. To ensure a focused and productive learning environment for all our students, we kindly ask that toys remain at home.
Of course, we understand that special comfort items may be necessary for some children, and we encourage you to discuss any specific needs with your child's teacher.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us create a distraction-free learning environment. We appreciate your support!

📸Submit Your Yearbook Photos📸
The Poplar Tree Yearbook is almost complete, all it’s missing are your photo submissions. Upload your favorite photos from the first day of school, the Panther Prowl, after-school clubs and sports, snow day fun, the Pajama Dance, special classroom celebrations, Book Fair, or anything else you think is yearbook-worthy! The yearbook staff will try to use as many photos as possible. Submit photos of individuals, small groups, or even entire classes!
The deadline to send in photos is Friday, March 14.

🧃SCA Donation Drive🍜
The SCA is hosting a food drive to collect essential items for teens in need. The SCA will be putting together snack packs that will be delivered to Second Story. Please see the image above for items needed and what each grade level is collecting.
Second Story provides over 400 snacks to youth in need each week. Your help is tremendous in allowing Second Story to continue this effort. Read more at

A few important things to note:
- For beverages, NO SODAS
- For single serving meals, please make sure they come in cups
- For snack cups, please make sure apple sauce is pouch only
Join the Poplar Tree Office Team!
The Poplar Tree ES office is seeking people-friendly helpers to grow its amazing team of office volunteers, providing customer service to visitors and callers when the office is short-staffed. Shifts are typically 2 hours. Schedule is flexible, and training is provided. Email Romney Short at rsshort@fcps.edu to discuss upcoming opportunities.
Grades 3-6 Spring SEL Screener Window opens March 10!
The Spring Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener will be administered to students in grades 3-6 between March 10 and March 28. Students who have been opted out will be given an alternate activity during the administration in their class. Students use the SEL Screener twice a year to share their perspectives on how well their school and community help them develop skills they need to succeed. The screener works by asking questions or presenting statements that students can think about and respond to. More information is available about the SEL Screener by accessing this link.

📣 Fire & Ice Spirit Squad🎉
Perform at the Fire & Ice basketball game with the Spirit Squad! Ms. Grieco will be the head coach and assisted by Chantilly HS Cheerleaders! All grades are welcome, but space is limited! Sign ups will be open until March 7.

🔬 Science Expo 🥽
We are excited to continue Poplar Tree’s Science Night Expo! It’s an exciting opportunity for each student to create a science-related project that captures their interest. All students will get the chance to present their project and each participant will receive a certificate and ribbon for their participation.
The Science Expo will be held on the evening of Thursday, April 3rd at 7:00 p.m. All projects need to be taken home after the science expo. Please register your student HERE by March 25, 2025. If your child is working with another student, both children need to submit their interest on the google form. Please remember that parental supervision the night of the Expo is required. Sully District Budget Town Hall
Please join Sully District Supervisor Kathy Smith and me for a joint town hall as we present the proposed FY 2026 Budgets and take your comments. If you would like to ask a question regarding the FY26 Budget, please send an email to Sully@FairfaxCounty.gov with "Budget Town Hall" in the subject.

The Magnet Program registration window will open Tuesday, March 4, 2025, and close Friday, April 4, 2025. No late applications are accepted.
To learn more about the programs and the registration process, families are encouraged to attend one of the Parent Information Nights:

🎮Dave & Buster's Power Card Fundraiser🥤
Dave & Buster's is partnering with the Poplar Tree PTA for a Power Card Fundraiser and a Spirit Night! Stock up on $20 and $10 Power Cards for holiday and birthday gifts, rainy days, or special outings, and Poplar Tree will receive 50% of the proceeds. You can use your Power Cards any time, including at our Spirit Night on March 17.
Orders are due by March 10. You will be directed to the PTA’s Square site for payment. Pick up your order at our Spirit Night or have it sent home with your student.
