Edison Academy Families,

Ramadan begins at sundown on Friday, February 28. This day is an evening-only observance day. There is school on these days, but certain activities that cannot be made up can not take place after school. See the complete school year calendar.

Throughout the year, as we celebrate and recognize various cultural holidays and observances, families are encouraged to contact their child’s principal regarding accommodations, including but not limited to those around lunch, prayer/meditation and silent reflection spaces and times, and instruction.

This week is Public Schools Week. Public Schools Week is an annual celebration that brings together school leaders, educators, parents & community leaders to recognize the importance of our nation’s public schools. Edison Academy welcomes every child, regardless of ability, race, religion, wealth, language, country of origin or needs. Our diversity is our strength.

February has been busy with visitors from feeder schools and guest speakers, as well as hosting the SkillsUSA competition for HVAC-R. We have enjoyed having them, please see below for results from SkillsUSA.

We are rapidly approaching the Academy Registration deadline of March 7, so be sure to talk to your counselor and check your email regularly for directions for submitting your written statement.

We recently celebrated the winners of our second quarter awards. Please see the list of winners. Congratulations to our students who received Student of the Quarter and Student Achievement Awards for the second quarter. To view the list visit here!

We will continue to share important information and good news through these newsletters, our Edison Academy website, and social media platforms, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

Sincerely,

Monica Bentley, Academy Administrator

Lanyards

All students that are not Edison High School students who attend Edison Academy have received an Edison Academy lanyard. It is expected that all feeder Academy students display their lanyards around their neck when entering the building, in the hallways, and when they are exiting the building. This was shared with all students at our beginning of the year orientation.  This presentation has also been posted in Schoology by our teachers. Moving forward, if your student needs a replacement lanyard there will be a $5.00 fee.

Attendance

Please contact the Edison Academy attendance office if your student will be absent or staying at the base school due to an altered schedule. Our telephone number is 703-924-8137 or email us at edisonacademy.attendance@fcps.edu.  This is in addition to informing the base school attendance office.
