FSES Community,
I hope this week's newsletter finds you all well. As we head into another 5 day week, I wanted to take a moment to highlight something truly exciting coming up: our PTA's fantastic fundraiser, the Harlem Wizards vs. our very own staff and a team comprised of faculty from neighboring schools!
I am absolutely buzzing with anticipation for this event! The energy, the laughter, and the sheer fun of the Harlem Wizards' show is something everyone, regardless of age, can enjoy. And to see our dedicated teachers and staff take to the court? That's going to be a memory-maker!
Now, let's be honest, basketball isn't exactly my strongest suit. But that's precisely why I'm so thrilled! I'm ready to step onto the court and embrace the spirit of the game, knowing I'll be cheered on by the most supportive community imaginable. Your encouragement will be my superpower!
This fundraiser is a wonderful opportunity to come together, have a blast, and support our school's vital programs. The PTA has worked tirelessly to bring this incredible event to us, and I know it will be a resounding success.
Please mark your calendars and join us for an evening of unforgettable entertainment. Let's pack the stands, show our school spirit, and create some lasting memories.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership.

Ms. Nevills is asking the school community to help source props for the upcoming musical production of Annie KIDS. Take a look at this list to see if you have anything like around the house. Or, if you like to create and craft, there are some props we need to make. Reach out to Ms. Nevills as soon as possible at dnevills@fcps.edu.

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has issued a new, first-time waiver allowing students fasting during the school day from February 28 to March 28, 2025, to request take-home breakfast and lunch meal kits. The Office of Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) will provide meal kits reflecting the school menu. Meals will be kept cold and must be heated at home.
Students may claim one breakfast and one lunch kit per day. If a student purchases breakfast or lunch at school, they cannot pick up a kit that day. Meal kits must be picked up by students at the end of the school day—adults cannot collect them. Parents or guardians must submit a weekly request form via the FCPS FNS website by the deadlines:
-
February 24, 2025, for February 28 and the week of March 3, 2025
-
March 3, 2025, for the week of March 10, 2025
-
March 10, 2025, for the week of March 17, 2025
-
March 17, 2025, for the week of March 24, 2025
Forms must be submitted on time to receive meal kits for the following week.

According to the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA 2023), Eating disorders are serious but treatable mental and physical illnesses that can affect people of all genders, ages, races, religions, ethnicities, sexual orientations, body shapes, and weights. In the United States, 28.8 million Americans will suffer from an eating disorder at some point in their lives. There is no single cause of an eating disorder. Rather, it is a complex combination of biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors that converge and set off an individual’s predisposed genetic vulnerability.
In collaboration with the Fairfax County Health Department, FCPS has developed a web page with detailed information and resources for parents and guardians of Fairfax County Public Schools. This information may be found at Eating Disorders.
