magic show

Fourth graders enjoyed a magic show where Ms. Diorio was levitated!

Dear Churchill Road families,

It looks like the worst of the winter weather is behind us.  Spring is on the way; don’t forget to spring forward and set your clocks ahead an hour on Sunday, March 9.

We are so proud of our teachers Ethan Locke and Chandrani Ohdedar.  Fourth grade teacher Mr. Locke has been named Langley Pyramid’s 2024-2025 Outstanding New Elementary Teacher.  He will move on to be considered at the Region 1 level.  Third grade teacher Ms. Ohdedar was recognized as an FCPS Cares recipient for her skills as an exemplary educator.  Congratulations to them both!

The second quarter is off to a great start – our fourth graders enjoyed an entertaining magic show at the Alden Theatre last week.

A final reminder – if you would like to share insights for 2025-2026 class placements, please do so using the form linked in the article below. All information must be submitted by 4 p.m. this Wednesday, February 26.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Cherith Pierson-Barr

Supply Wish List

We are running low on tissues and Clorox wipes.  If you would like to donate these items, please bring them to the bin in the front office or your child's classroom teacher. Thank you for your generosity.

Student Fasting Meal Kits for February 28 - March 28, 2025

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has issued a new, first-time waiver allowing students fasting during the school day from February 28 to March 28, 2025, to request take-home breakfast and lunch meal kits. The Office of Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) will provide meal kits reflecting the school menu. Meals will be kept cold and must be heated at home. Students may claim one breakfast and one lunch kit per day. If a student purchases breakfast or lunch at school, they cannot pick up a kit that day. Meal kits must be picked up by students at the end of the school day—adults cannot collect them. Parents or guardians must submit a weekly request form via the FCPS FNS website by the deadlines:

  • February 24, 2025, for February 28 and the week of March 3, 2025
  • March 3, 2025, for the week of March 10, 2025
  • March 10, 2025, for the week of March 17, 2025
  • March 17, 2025, for the week of March 24, 2025

Character Strengths Focus

The next two weeks our school community is focusing on the character strengths of Humility and Love of Learning.

Humility means not seeking attention and letting your actions speak for themselves.

Love of Learning means enjoying the process of learning new things, whether in school or on your own.

To practice and encourage the character strengths with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you will watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions about these character strengths.

ramadan

Ramadan

Ramadan begins at sundown on Friday, February 28. This day is an evening-only observance day. There is school on these days, but certain activities that cannot be made up can not take place after school. See the complete school year calendar.

Throughout the year, as we celebrate and recognize various cultural holidays and observances, families are encouraged to contact Mr. Nick Kilpatrick regarding accommodations, including but not limited to those around lunch, prayer/meditation and silent reflection spaces and times, and instruction.
