FSES Community,
Thank you for the fantastic turnout at last week's PTA meeting! It was a great audience and we were honored to have School Board Member, Robyn Lady, join us and speak to our community. Several FSES staff members also presented some celebrations of our midyear data compared to the division. The slide deck can be accessed below. It is evident that there is a lot of hard work happening here and we are so proud of our Panda's successes. These PTA meetings are vital for our school-community partnership.
Thank you for your prompt responses to my email regarding today's early release. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated! We have three more three hour early releases (3/17, 4/28, and 5/19). We will hold our rising Kindergarten orientation on 4/28. Please reach out to neighbors if they need to register their child for Franklin Sherman next year.
I'm eagerly anticipating playing in the Wizards PTA game on March 7th and hope to see many FSES students there!

Ms. Nevills is asking the school community to help source props for the upcoming musical production of Annie KIDS. Take a look at this list to see if you have anything like around the house. Or, if you like to create and craft, there are some props we need to make. Reach out to Ms. Nevills as soon as possible at dnevills@fcps.edu.

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has issued a new, first-time waiver allowing students fasting during the school day from February 28 to March 28, 2025, to request take-home breakfast and lunch meal kits. The Office of Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) will provide meal kits reflecting the school menu. Meals will be kept cold and must be heated at home.
Students may claim one breakfast and one lunch kit per day. If a student purchases breakfast or lunch at school, they cannot pick up a kit that day. Meal kits must be picked up by students at the end of the school day—adults cannot collect them. Parents or guardians must submit a weekly request form via the FCPS FNS website by the deadlines:
-
February 24, 2025, for February 28 and the week of March 3, 2025
-
March 3, 2025, for the week of March 10, 2025
-
March 10, 2025, for the week of March 17, 2025
-
March 17, 2025, for the week of March 24, 2025
Forms must be submitted on time to receive meal kits for the following week.

Our learning garden is continuing to shape up! We see daffodils starting to sprout in our beds. Spring is just around the corner! Seating stumps were delivered from FCPS and wonderful volunteers helped place them for yet another outdoor learning space at our school.
Our Green Scene students have been meeting on Tuesday mornings at 8:15 to learn about the environment around us. Volunteers have been meeting after school on Fridays at 4:15 to help with weeding in beds and to collaborate on ideas for preparing for spring and summer plantings. All staff and parents are welcome to join us either or both of these times.
Our Green Scene leaders are Rosalie Essimi (Librarian), Beckie Michalski (K Teacher) and Lisa Eaton (Art Teacher). You can contact Lisa Eaton at lreaton@fcps.edu for more information if you would like to get involved. We would love to have you.
