🌍Volunteers Needed for

Family Identity Night!

Our second annual Family Identity Night is Friday 3/14 from 6-8 PM! Ms. Shaker and Ms. Roop put on an amazing event last year! We are looking forward to learning more about the family identities of our school community this year. We need a few parents to help support by reaching out to businesses/restaurants that could provide food or a performance group who’d like to be part of our event. Please email volunteers@slpta.org if you can help out. Thank you!!

🌍Save the Date! Friday March 14

📚Volunteers Needed in the Library!

Our librarian, Ms. Gresham, could really use volunteers in the library to help make a maker space in the SLES library along with helping with check outs, returns, shelving books...the list goes on. Volunteering during your child's class is a fun and engaging way of getting to know their classmates as well.

Please email Ms. Gresham at fegresham@fcps.edu with any questions or use the following link to sign up for a time to volunteer  https://signup.com/go/YQPzMuf

This can only be possible with the help of your generous donations. We would greatly appreciate it if you could please consider donating clothing items or donating items from our Family Resource Center Wish List.

🔍Lost & Found

Lost and Found

Do you have any missing sweatshirts, jackets, water bottles, or lunch bags? Please take a moment to ask your child to check the Lost & Found station set in front of the office for any missing items!

❄️Winter Weather

Please watch this video to see how weather-related closing decisions are made. FCPS’ website is generally the first place to find out about emergency weather closings. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible including email, text, social media, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated

Be sure to plan for the winter season. Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE, bookmark the FCPS website, and arrange for childcare if needed.

We will monitor the weather for low temperatures, wind chill advisories and warnings, and weather advisories which may prevent children from being outside. Make sure your child is dressed appropriately with a warm coat and other cold-weather clothing, so they can comfortably enjoy their time outdoors. See the National Weather Service’s tips on staying safe during cold weather.

If you need assistance supplying your child with cold-weather clothing or food, please contact our family liaison below:

Middle School Transition Fair

It’s never too early or too late to start preparing for your future. We want to help you start planning for a successful transition from school to life as a young adult. Ensuring postsecondary success of our students with disabilities is dependent on what is known as transition planning. Please join CTS and other support service personnel for an evening focused on planning for the future.

You will have the opportunity to meet and ask questions of representatives from CTS programs and services for students with disabilities, as well as learn about short and long-term postsecondary supports, employment, postsecondary education considerations, Supported Decision Making, and student self-determination as an evidence-based predictor of post school success.

This event also includes two speakers who will discuss IEP transition planning, special education services, and postsecondary options for younger students as they navigate FCPS and plan for their future. A questions/answer session will follow.

📝Tutoring Resource: Varsity Tutors

Varsity Tutors offers a variety of free services to all FCPS students: on-demand chat tutoring, live group classes, essay review, college and career ready resources, and assessment and self-study resources.  These are all free and students automatically have access to these services through Clever.  For the “on-demand chat tutoring,” tutors are matched with students based on their subject of choice and can work through homework problems or a review for an upcoming test with the tutor providing visual problem solving.  This would not be a consistent tutor as it functions more like open office hours where students can drop in at any time and work with one of the tutors that are currently available.
