I want to congratulate Senior, Sam Glassman, who is a National Merit Scholarship Finalist nationwide. This is a huge honor for all of Sam’s hard work and dedication. We are truly proud of this Wolverine!

Jamaal has been very present in the hallways every day helping to make sure the students are moving to class and has been greeting the students as they walk by - especially in a crowded area of our school near the classrooms. It's very much appreciated - Thank you Jamaal!

Bryan has been helpful to bounce ideas off of and seek advice from. He's someone I can check in with to make sure we are all in sync with the focus of lessons; lesson planning; and assessments given to students. He's been helpful in the past two years and I appreciate it highly.

Please remember, attendance is very important each day. There have been rumors of numerous Senior Skip Days being planned. I want to remind students and families that Senior Skip Days are NOT school sponsored or encouraged.
The Biology information session that was cancelled due to the snow day has been rescheduled for Tuesday February 18. If you student is in a Biology 1 class, please review the e-notify sent that includes a link to register for the event.

Preparing for post-secondary plans can be overwhelming, thankfully we have an amazing resource, Karen Young, WPHS College and Career Specialist, to help navigate it all! Sophomores – Use your sophomore year to determine your test preference! Take both the ACT and SAT mock during the last semester to see which test is the best fit for you. Start thinking about your test prep timing. The most effective results are seen if you complete your prep no more than two weeks before the official test. Plan on taking the official test three times. If you have completed Algebra 2 or above during sophomore year, consider the fall prep class and official tests. Wouldn’t it be nice to have some or all your official testing completed before winter break of junior year? Studies show no score increase by waiting!

Juniors – When you have completed Algebra 2 or above, you are ready for the official tests! If you still need to determine your test preference, take advantage of the mocks (take one of each test). You’ll still have time to take our spring or fall prep class! Just remember to plan your testing and prep schedule around the sports/extracurricular activities! The most effective results are seen if you complete your prep no more than two weeks before the official test. Plan on taking the official test three times. If you are taking Algebra 2 during junior year, target the June official test as your first attempt.

2025 Fairfax County Teen Job Fair Series
Looking for a job or volunteer opportunity? All students are invited to attend the 2025 Fairfax County Teen Job Fair Series and Career Building Workshops sponsored by Springfield District Supervisor Pat Herrity with FCPS kicking off Saturday, March 8th from 11am to 1pm at West Springfield High School and on Saturday, March 15th at Chantilly High School from 11am to 1pm.
At each fair, students will have the opportunity to engage with employers offering part-time, full-time, seasonal, and volunteer positions. During the fairs, students will also be able to attend career-building workshops like Resume Building and Interviewing 101. Most positions at the fair are geared toward students age 16+, but some opportunities for younger students may be available with parental consent. See the flyer for more information or to register.
Academy Day 2025:
Senator Mark Warner invites high school and middle school students, their parents or guardians, and school counselors to Academy Day 2025. Attendees will be provided a comprehensive overview of the United States service academies and their admission processes. Additionally, students will be able to meet with officials from all five academies as well as representatives from ROTC programs at the University of Virginia, the United States Marine Corps, the Virginia Military Institute, the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets, and the Virginia Women's Institute for Leadership at Mary Baldwin University. Staff from Virginia Congressional offices will be available to answer questions regarding the application procedures for congressional nominations.
