A Message from the Principal

Dear Families,

We continue to be concerned about student safety during arrival and dismissal at Ravensworth.  We have witnessed cars making illegal U-turns after dropping off or picking up their children, stopping on Nutting Drive to let students exit the car (which blocks the flow of traffic), and blocking neighborhood driveways when dropping off or picking up students.

We ask that families follow these procedures when dropping off or picking up students for the safety of all.

  • We encourage you to use Kiss and Ride.  It is a safe and efficient way to drop off and pick up your child from school.
  • If you would like to drop off your students and have them walk, please do so at the corner of Ellet and Nutting or Gosport and Nutting.  Please do not stop on Nutting to drop off students.
  • Please do not do U-turns on Nutting Drive.  U-turns are only legal in Virginia at intersections.

Our next 3-Hour Early Release is scheduled for Monday, February 10th.  Our plan is to dismiss students in the same way that they were dismissed in November unless we hear that you would like to make a change. You can let us know by contacting the school office at 703-426-3600 by 9:00 am on Monday, February 10th. As a reminder, SACC will be open at 12:20 pm for those students who are already enrolled in this program.

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Erika Aspuria

Principal

New Name and New Date- Family Traditions Night

We’ve been watching the weather and things do not look promising for the Noodle Night event we had planned for the middle of the week.  We are going to move the Noodles and Comfort Food Night, originally scheduled for Thursday, February 13th, to Friday, February 21st.  After collaborating with the PTA and hearing from our families, we are excited to announce Family Traditions Night on Friday, February 21st from 6:00-7:00 pm.  Bring your family’s favorite noodle dish or comfort food to share with others.  We also encourage you to bring your family’s favorite board or card game to play with others.  This will be a great opportunity to experience new foods and meet other Ravensworth families.

Health Reminders

health reminders1

Flu season is here, and we all want to keep our students healthy and safe. Please remind your child to practice good hygiene, such as washing their hands frequently and covering their mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.

If your child is feeling unwell, especially with flu-like symptoms such as fever, chills, or body aches, we ask that you to keep them at home to rest and recover and be fever free for 24 hours without medication, before returning to school. This helps prevent the spread of illness to others.

Thank you for your support in keeping our school community healthy. If you have any questions

or need additional information, please feel free to reach out.

Virginia’s Student Assessment Summary for Families

sol

This month, families of students who took any Standards of Learning (SOL) test between school years 2015-16 and 2023-24 will receive a Student Assessment Summary Report. The report shows a student’s state percentile ranking for each test. This allows families to see how their child ranked compared to all Virginia students who took the same test that year.

Reports are available now in SIS ParentVUE Documents. We will distribute them to students whose families do not have ParentVUE access. Learn how to access ParentVUE

The report is intended to help families reflect on how their child performed across all tested subjects over the years. Our staff members are committed to working with families to help every student reach their highest potential. Learn more about student assessments in FCPS.

Immunizations

inmunization req
  • Make Sure Your Children Are Up-to-Date on Immunizations Please make sure your child has all of their necessary immunizations. Remember, all students are required to be immunized against certain diseases to attend school in Virginia. This is an important part of keeping children healthy!

Starting Monday, May 19, students who have not provided proof of immunization may not be allowed to attend school. You can check your child’s immunization status and submit updated immunization information by accessing SIS ParentVUE

Please check with your healthcare provider to make sure your child is up to date on required immunizations for the 2024-25 school year. If your child needs an immunization, make an appointment with your healthcare provider, visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a list of child immunization clinics, or view other Immunization Resources. Be wise and immunize!

Celebrating Achievements of African Americans

Black history month graphic

Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. FCPS Social Studies provides information and suggested activities and resources to support teaching and learning Black and African American history.

Black history is American history. Students deserve meaningful, sustained opportunities to learn about the experiences and contributions of Black and African American people year-round, and Black History Month is one opportunity to honor these diverse and important stories.

Personal Items (Lost & Found)

lost and found

Please remember to label clothing items, lunchboxes, water bottles, and whatever else you think your child may leave behind somewhere. If there's a name in it or on it, Ravensworth Staff will do their best to get it back to the owner. If not, it will go into the lost and found pile. Lost and found will be placed in the lobby of the school until February 25th for families to look for lost items. All items left after that date will be donated. Please make sure to check the Lost and Found frequently, especially as the seasons change. Thanks for your help in making sure all items return home to where they belong!
