Message from Mr. Greata

Good afternoon CG Woodson community,

As I reflect on the many ways our community has come together to support one another this past week, I am filled with deep gratitude and appreciation. The care, compassion, and unwavering commitment to each other’s well-being have been truly remarkable. This strong sense of unity and willingness to help, in any way possible, is at the heart of who we are.

Throughout this week, our school counselors and student services staff have been a strong source of comfort for our school. This week was National School Counseling Week, and I want to thank our school counselors  for the guidance, counsel, encouragement, and care they give our students every single day. They are simply amazing.

As many in our community continue to grieve, I want to reshare important information from last week. Our student and staff support services remain in place, and our staff is actively checking in on students and referring them to Student Services as needed.

If you feel that your child would benefit from speaking with a support staff member during school hours, please call us at 703-503-4600. For after-hours support, the 988 Lifeline is available by calling or texting 988. Additionally, you may find this resource helpful when speaking with your child.

I hope you have a restful and peaceful weekend,

Kevin Greata
Principal

Thank You to Our School Counselors!

February 3-7 is National School Counseling Week, which highlights the tremendous impact school counselors have in helping students achieve academic success and planning for a career.

We deeply appreciate their hard work, empathy, and the positive impact they have on shaping brighter futures.

Thank you to Woodson counselors Ms. Korpacz, Ms. Metrinko, Ms. Wood, Mr. Ford, Ms. Walter, Ms. Powell, Ms. Demaree, Ms. Bopp, Ms. Nguyen, Ms. Hegland, Ms. Parker, Ms. Harrison, Ms. Andersen, and Ms. Lieb-Mosley!

Leadership students provided Woodson counselors with a snack cart

Leadership students showed their appreciation for our counselors all week long. The dessert cart was such a treat!

Academic Advising

Students in 11th grade began meeting with their counselors this week to select classes for next year. Counselors are meeting with students by grade level, and below is the schedule.

Rising Seniors: February 5- February 18

Rising Juniors: February 19- February 26

Rising Sophomores: February 27-March 7

Rising seniors will meet with their counselors during a history class at some point within the timeframe noted above. Rising juniors and sophomores will meet with their counselors during a PE class at some point within the timeframe noted above. If a student is not taking a history or PE class at Woodson this year, their counselor will contact them separately to schedule an academic advising appointment. In the event of weather delays or cancellations, class visits will be rescheduled as needed to ensure that each student has their academic advising meeting with their counselor.

After your child meets with their counselor to select classes, their selections will be available for viewing in ParentVUE under “Course Request” in the main menu. Please review course selections at home with your child. If any change requests need to be made, please contact your child’s counselor by March 14 to make the change. We cannot guarantee any change requests made after March 14, so please keep this deadline in mind.

For information and resources to assist you in course selection for next year, please visit the Woodson Academic Advising Website as well as the Woodson Student Services Academic Advising Padlet.
