EMT students at PSTOC

EMT students learn emergency management through simulations at PSTOC

EMT students visited the McConnell Public Safety and Transportation Operations Center to learn about public safety and emergency management.  PSTOC representatives provided a training simulation for the students at which they were placed in Community Groups with roles in emergency situations.  Students needed to negotiate for needed resources in order to support the "disastrous situation their community was facing" and work together as a team.

Medical Assistant students learned more about our senses

Taste, smell, touch and eye reactions are good indicators of a healthy nervous system.  Through various centers, Medical Assistant students had the chance to experience their senses a little deeper.  PERRLA (Pupil, Equal, Round, Reactive, Light, Accommodation) is what the students are learning above, as they see their pupils reaction to light sources.

Students learn taste sensors

Taste sensors vary depending on the different parts of your tongue and taste sensors differ depending on the person.

Students explore sense of touch

Using cotton balls, paper clips, sand paper, students learn to explore patients sense of touch and if that touch is similar on the right side or left side.

Computer screen with Preston Pharmacy

Virtual classroom with Preston's Pharmacy

Pharmacy Tech Level 2 students enjoyed a virtual presentation by Zak Ferouz, 4th Year PharmD Candidate at Preston's Pharmacy.  Due to the size of the Pharmacy, students were not able to physically visit the location, however, Preston's was gracious enough to provide a virtual tour of the compounding pharmacy.  Students learned hand hygiene and garbing protocols for compounding, space requirements of sterile and non-sterile compounding areas, stringent rules of temperature for storage and compounding.  In addition, he shared information about his studies toward becoming a Doctor of Pharmacy.

Cell Phone Policy at Falls Church HS Academy

Falls Church High School has been selected as one of the schools to pilot the new phone-free initiative, beginning September 3.  This includes all students attending Falls Church Academy classes as well.  Even if the student's base school is not included in this pilot, all Academy students will adhere to this same policy when in Academy classes.  Students will need to store cell phones in central storage units in each classroom.  Airpods must be secured in the storage unit or placed in backpacks. Smartwatches must be off or on airplane mode.  More information will be shared in class.
