COLLEGE PREP INFORMATION SEMINAR - Tuesday Feb. 11 - following the PTSA General Meeting at 7:00 pm: (VIRTUAL ONLY)

It's never too early to start learning about the college application process.  Our speaker, Laurie Lande, is an experienced independent college counselor who helps high school students with the college application process.  Please join us to learn more about college readiness in all grades of high school.  This virtual presentation will take place following the business portion of our PTSA meeting on Feb. 11.

Do you know the difference between the early action, early decision, early decision 2 and regular decision rounds in the college process? What about the difference between weighted and unweighted GPAs, and which GPAs do colleges prefer? Come hear Laurie speak about these important distinctions, as well as what to do when your child's GPA is not stellar.

Keep in mind that the average cost for private college now is $80k a year, and even among public universities, it averages $30k. What is the most meaningful way to find aid for college and which colleges are more likely to award such aid?  Laurie can answer this question.

MCLEAN CREW CLUB MULCH MADNESS 2025

McLean Crew Club’s annual Mulch Madness weekend is February 28 - March 2, 2025 (Blizzard back-up date March 14-16).

Mulch Madness is McLean Crew's single biggest fundraiser and responsible for contributing ~70% of our fundraising budget and 30% of our Club’s total revenue. This is a vital fundraiser for the financial health of our club and helps to avoid higher dues. Every athlete and family participates.

During December through February, McLean Crew Club athletes ask our community to support MCC by ordering mulch. Then, on Mulch Madness weekend, MCC rowers and families deliver around 16,500 bags of high-quality, double-shredded hardwood mulch to the McLean community in less than 36 hours – those are some fast rowers! It takes our team working together to accomplish this tremendous task - athletes, families, and our community.  Are you ready to join the Mulch Madness?

Seeking Chairpersons for MHS

Baccalaureate Service

Dear MHS Senior Parents,

Please consider spearheading the MHS Baccalaureate Service, a longstanding MHS tradition that celebrates the role of faith in students’ academic career. During the Baccalaureate, select seniors talk about how their faith guided them through their academic life thus far, and local area faith-leaders speak encouragement and blessings over every senior present.  Families are welcome to attend, and senior Highlanders get to process with a professional bagpiper.  Choir and orchestra students also get to showcase their talents during the service.  A brief reception with donated food afterward gives seniors and their families a chance to process this pivotal time. It is a special event, well-organized and easy to do, and comes with a binder and “consultants” from past services -- it just needs a Chair. If you’re willing, please contact Julie Smith, jds342000@gmail.com.

Thank you!
