FSES Community,
What a fantastic World Culture Fest! It was truly heartwarming to see so many families connecting and enjoying the diverse foods and traditions represented in our community. The sights, sounds, and flavors from around the globe made for a memorable evening. A huge thank you to our amazing PTA for their tireless efforts in organizing this event, and especially to Ben Moore for his expertise in bringing it all together. The success of the festival is a testament to the strength and vibrancy of our community.
Please make sure to mark on your calendars that 2/24 is our three hour early release. We have not had an early release since December so you will receive an email from me confirming your plans.
Like you, I'm keeping a close eye on the weather! Fingers crossed for sunshine as we look forward to a fun-filled week of spirit days, with our our 100th Day celebration!

The Green Scene, Franklin Sherman’s Get 2 Green initiative club, is revving up for some garden enhancement! We would love to have parent volunteers help this spring in our fenced-in garden on Friday’s from 4:15 until 5 p.m. We need help with weeding, pruning, planting, watering, and we will be assembling and installing raised garden beds in a few weeks that will need to be filled with provided soil. Dress accordingly and bring work gloves. (Friday, February 8, we will not be meeting.)
To learn more about the Get 2 Green initiative, check out this site: https://get2green.fcps.edu/. Also, you are always welcome at our Green Scene meetings Tuesdays at 8:15am. A permission slip is needed per student that we can give you. Please contact Lisa Eaton (Art Teacher) at lreaton@fcps.edu with any questions. Rosalie Essimi (Librarian) and Beckie Michalski (Kindergarten), are our other Green Scene leaders. We look forward to gardening with you!

We are organizing a reading challenge to run from now until springtime. Students are encouraged to read at least 4 books from the current VA Readers’ Choice (VRC) book selections and enter a weekly drawing to win fantastic prizes!!!
Here are the reading lists. Students can check out these books from the school library or the public library. Each time they finish a book they collect a stamp on their VRC reading passport.
You can encourage your child by asking them about the reading challenge and discussing with them what book they are reading.
In April, all participants in this challenge will vote to determine the best 3 books in each category! All votes will be tallied and sent to the Virginia State Literacy Association (VSLA) who has established this program.
