Dear Dolphin Families,
This week was full of excitement! Our Winter Music Concert showcased the incredible talents of our chorus, strings, and band dolphins, reminding us of the importance of performing arts in our school community. Music and the arts provide our students with opportunities to express themselves, build confidence, and collaborate. A huge thank-you to our music teachers and families for their support!
Another highlight of the week—our dolphins finally got to enjoy one of our reopened playgrounds for outdoor recess! After many days indoors due to weather, the joy and energy they brought to the playground were a reminder of how important movement and play are for our students.
This upcoming week, we celebrate National School Counseling Week and recognize the incredible impact of our school counselors, Ms. Palatucci, Ms. Penning, and Ms. Roberts! They support our dolphins academically, socially, and emotionally through classroom lessons, small groups, and individual support. We are so grateful for their dedication to helping our students thrive every day! Learn more about the role of school counselors through

This week, we’re sharing a step-by-step guide to effectively treating head lice.
|
|
 |
How to treat Lice
-
Use an FDA-Approved Product: Over-the-counter and prescription treatments are available.
-
Follow Instructions Carefully: Read and follow all product directions.
-
Comb Thoroughly: Use a fine-tooth nit comb to remove lice and nits.
-
Disinfect Combs & Brushes: Soak in hot water (130°F) for 5–10 minutes or in anti-lice shampoo for 1 hour.
-
Check Hair Daily: Continue manually removing nits for two weeks after treatment.
-
Retreat as Directed: Follow the recommended schedule on the product label.
-
Monitor for 2–3 Weeks: Check every 2–3 days to ensure lice are gone.
Misconception Alert!
There is NO proven evidence that the following treatments work: 🚫 Vinegar or compounds claiming to dissolve nits 🚫 Mayonnaise, olive oil, or tea tree oil 🚫 Lotions that claim to "suffocate" lice 🚫 Petroleum jelly 🚫 Hazardous chemicals like kerosene, gasoline, paint thinner, or turpentine (these are dangerous and should never be used!)
Next week, we’ll share tips on preventing head lice. Stick to safe, proven treatments to eliminate lice effectively!
CAUTION:

Proposed Budget Presented to School Board
Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid presented the Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Proposed Budget at the School Board meeting on Thursday, January 23. Watch a video of the presentation.
As Dr. Reid noted in her January 24 letter to families, “The budget is fiscally responsible and invests in excellence — not just for FCPS, but for all of us in Fairfax County who want a strong community with successful young people, dedicated educators and support staff, and a thriving economy.”
The proposed budget reflects the needs of and FCPS’ commitments to Fairfax County students, families, and community members. It focuses on competitive compensation, including a 7.0% salary increase for all staff to recruit and retain our outstanding educators, administrators, and other school-based and operational staff dedicated to the success of our students; investing in students who require additional support; and continuing multiyear initiatives such as inclusive preschool and safety and security updates.
