Principal's Message

Dear FSES Community,

As we enter the 2nd semester of the year, it has been great to reflect on the progress our students have made. We look forward to the PTA meeting on the 19th where we will present our mid-year data for the community.

We are scheduled for our next early release on Monday, February 24th. We will work off the plan from our last early release unless we hear from you that there is a change.

Looking forward to a February with more consistency and settling into the 3rd quarter! Thank you for your continued support.

Upcoming Events:

  • PTA World Culture Fest Friday 6-8

World CultureFest is only FOUR days away! FSES PTA is excited to be hosting this amazing event again this year. The event is free to attend and we will have prizes for youth who visit all of the countries on their CultureFest 2025 passport.

  • PTA Meeting: Join us for our upcoming PTA meeting on February 19th at 5:30 PM. Several staff members will be presenting data that highlights the factors that contribute to Franklin Sherman's outstanding academic environment. We encourage all parents and guardians to attend.

READ, READ, READ & WIN

We are organizing a reading challenge to run from now until springtime. Students are encouraged to read at least 4 books from the current VA Readers’ Choice (VRC) book selections and enter a weekly drawing to win fantastic prizes!!!

Here are the reading lists. Students can check out these books from the school library or the public library. Each time they finish a book they collect a stamp on their VRC reading passport.

You can encourage your child by asking them about the reading challenge and discussing with them what book they are reading.

In April, all participants in this challenge will vote to determine the best 3 books in each category! All votes will be tallied and sent to the Virginia State Literacy Association (VSLA) who has established this program.

Reporting All Day Absences

FCPS has created clearer guidance for reporting attendance.  Please use  using one of the methods below:

  • ParentVUE: Beginning in the 2024-25 school year, parents or legal guardians can submit up to two consecutive full-day absences using SIS ParentVUE. Learn more about attendance reporting through ParentVUE on the FCPS website: fcps.edu/attendance.
  • Call the school's attendance line at 703-506-7979.
  • Email the front office at franklinshermanelem.attendance@fcps.edu. When emailing an absence or tardy, please include your child's first and last name and their teacher's name.

All Day Absences Only: The Attendance feature in ParentVUE is the FCPS secure web solution for reporting all day absences.

Partial Absence: To report late arrivals, early dismissals, or to update already submitted attendance, please contact the school. Our school's office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 am-4:30 pm.
