Happy February! This month is packed with celebrations and opportunities to connect as a community. We're excited for Kindness Week, multiple staff appreciation weeks, our Spelling Bee, and the vibrant showcase of Heritage Night. Black History Month

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." - Nelson Mandela. Oak View will honor Black History Month by learning about the history and contributions of Black Americans, inspiring us all to make a positive impact on the world.


Upcoming Appreciation Weeks

February 3 - 7 is Clinical Staff Appreciation Week, a chance to celebrate the incredible contributions of our dedicated clinical team! Let's show the following staff how much we appreciate their hard work and support:

  • Kathryn Stevens, School Psychologist

Show your appreciation! Write notes of gratitude thanking our clinical staff for their dedication to our students' well-being.

And on the horizon for bus riders and walkers, Bus Driver and Crossing Guard Appreciation is February 17 - 21. Let's spread love and appreciation!

Reduce Power Struggles & Support Challenging Feelings

On Tuesday, February 4, we will have Rachel Bailey as a speaker for our Oak View families via Zoom. Ms. Bailey is a highly respected expert who works with parents to foster more responsible, resilient, and confident children. This is an evening event where Ms. Bailey will help families learn how to create a calmer, more peaceful home by addressing power struggles and supporting children with anxiety. We encourage all Oak View families to attend virtually on Tuesday, February 4, from 7 - 8 p.m.  Please check Friday folders for the Zoom link.


Heritage Night 2

Around the World Heritage Night

We're excited to invite you to a parent interest meeting for our upcoming Heritage Night! Join us on Tuesday, February 4, at 3:30 p.m. to learn more and help with the planning. We'll be honoring the rich diversity of our community by showcasing traditions, customs, food, games, and activities from around the world. Heritage Night will be held on February 19, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Help make this event a wonderful celebration of our community, please use this form.

Author Visit for Grades 2-3

Debra Shumaker will be visiting students in grades 2-3 on February 19.  She will sign books during her visit if you would like to purchase one and the deadline to purchase is February 5. Ordering a book by Debra Shumaker is not required.

Books ordered through Bookworm Central earn books for the school library.  Directions can be found in Friday Folders on Schoology on how to order.

Kindness and Spirit Week

February 10-13 is Kindness and Spirit Week at Oak View! We'll have daily activities to reinforce the importance of caring for and respecting ourselves and others. The week kicks off with a schoolwide meeting, includes a celebration for our kindergarten and 1st-grade students' 100th and 101st days, the PTA-sponsored Kindness Night, and culminates with Valentine's Day. What a wonderful way to spread love and joy throughout our school!

We hope to see you at PTA Kindness Night on Thursday, February 13, from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. We'll be assembling Kindness Bags for the homeless, crafting easy scarves for the homeless, and creating friendship bracelets for friends and classmates.

Early Release, Monday, December 9

Mark your calendars! The next early dismissal is scheduled Monday, February 24th, at 12:15 p.m. SACC will be open for registered students. Supervision will be provided until 3:15 p.m. for families who have pre-arranged childcare with Oak View. If your dismissal plans for the February early release differ from the last early dismissal in December, please watch for an email with a Google Form to submit any changes.

There’s an easy five-step process for parents wanting to register their child for kindergarten:

  1. Determine eligibility. 
  2. Identify your local school. 
  3. Gather documents. 
  4. Fill out forms. 
  5. Schedule an appointment.

Dual Language Immersion Lottery Registration

Registration for the countywide lottery for Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program is open through Thursday, March 6, at 4 p.m.

Boundary

Boundary Review Meetings

The final virtual Community Boundary Review meeting will take place Monday, February 10, 6:30-8 p.m. (Click the date to register.) Participants will follow the same format as the previous in-person meetings and have access to the same information. Each registrant will receive a unique Zoom link. Language interpretation will be available.
