Dear Terraset Families,

It is hard to believe that we have reached the end of the 2nd quarter. Tomorrow, January 29th, is a student holiday for a teacher workday as well as Lunar New Year. Wishing good fortune to all who celebrate! Our office will be open with a regular schedule tomorrow.

We are certainly looking forward to beginning our 3rd quarter of the 24-25 school year with less illnesses and more time together with our community. We have several community events that we are looking forward to coming up such as the South Lakes Pyramid Broadway Night and STEAM Night here at Terraset. We hope to see you at these events, our next Principal’s Parent Coffee, or a PTO meeting soon!

Warmly,

Katie Aldridge, Principal

Dave Ickowski, Assistant Principal

☕Principal Coffee and Conversations

Please join us for informal coffee and conversations from 9:45am-10:15am in the cafeteria or view via live stream!  These sessions will be opportunities to hear about great things happening at Terraset and in FCPS and ask any questions you might have.  We hope you can join us on:

📝Survey of Preschool Children

If you have a preschool-aged child who is eligible for kindergarten for the 2025-2026 school year, please use this link to access the form. Return completed forms to the office no later than February 28, 2025.

If you know of any children in your neighborhood who also have rising kindergartners, please share this information or ask them to reach out to Shannon Johnson at 703-390-5602.

Virginia law, Section 22.1-254 requires that children who will reach their fifth birthday on or before September 30, 2025, must enroll in kindergarten for the 2025-2026 school year. If your child turns five on or before 09/30/2025 and you do not wish to enroll him/her in kindergarten, please let us know in writing.

The form can be submitted to Shannon Johnson via email or by dropping it off at the main office. Thank you for your assistance in helping us identify school-age children.

🫱🏽‍🫲🏼Friendly Reminder: FCPS Trust Policy Information For Families

As we navigate the months ahead, many families are experiencing anxiety and uncertainty due to the recent Presidential Election and ongoing discussions surrounding immigration policies.

In 2022, the School Board adopted the Trust Policy, reaffirming its commitment to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all students and their families. This policy aligns FCPS with Fairfax County’s Public Trust and Confidentiality Policy ensuring that students and families can access school division benefits and services without fear that their information will be disclosed to federal immigration officials.

🔬Terraset STEM Expo Outing

Students and parents participated in a STEM Expo sponsored by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research down at the University of Washington, D.C. on Saturday.  Along with hands on activities and learning about the abundance of professional opportunities focused on STEM, students were able to learn about the workings of the human brain in an immersive setting inside a portable planetarium.
