New Pre-Arranged Absence Process

Good attendance will help our children do well in high school, college, and in life!

Extended absences are discouraged because:

  • Children can suffer academically if they miss too much school.  18 days of absent is considered chronically absent.
  • Some absences are unavoidable. Children will get sick and need to stay home occasionally; we need your child at school as often as possible.
  • If too many absences occur, there is lost learning time.
  • Attendance matters as early as kindergarten. Studies show many children who miss too many days in kindergarten and grade 1 can struggle academically in later years.
  • It's important that extended vacations that require children to miss school should be aligned with scheduled holidays and vacations.

Renovation Community Meeting on February 12

Due to inclement weather and the resulting school closure on January 8, the Bren Mar Park Elementary School pre-construction meeting will now be held on Wednesday, February 12, at 6:30 p.m., in the school cafeteria. Language interpretation services will be available.

Something Sweet on February 14

Families are welcome to join us the morning of Friday, February 14, 2025 from 8:15 - 9:00 a.m.  You are invited to come and sit and eat with your child, other families, and BMP staff!  The cafeteria will be decorated and music playing for a special time together in the school setting.

Families, bring your own breakfast.  Children will have access to the free FCPS breakfast.

If you are interested in volunteering to help set up decorations from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2025, please email Principal Williams at cewilliams2@fcps.edu.

Specialist Spotlight - Music

We have been busy, busy, busy in the Music Department! The winter months brought snow, cheer, and LOTS OF CONCERTS! Select 5th grade Chorus Members were invited to participate in the 2025 Annandale Pyramid Honors Chorus. Our 5th graders did a wonderful job representing BMP.

We were excited to present the 4th and 5th grade students and their Winter Chorus Concert. We are very proud of the 4th grade chorus for their first ever public performance, and we are continuously proud of the 5th graders' leadership and maturity! Our K-5 students showed great audience skills and were attentive listeners during the assembly.

In February, we look forward to the 5th Grade Orff Ensemble Performance. Each 5th grade specials group will present an Orff Arrangement of either a classical masterpiece or familiar folk tune. 5th grade families, you are invited to attend on February 19th at 10:00am.

Our 2nd graders are looking forward to their stage debut in the 2025 2nd Grade Musical "Goin' Buggy". The 2nd graders have been working hard choreographing, set and prop designing, as well as learning their lines and songs. 2nd grade families, please join us on March 14th at 10:00am for a special performance.

We hope the New Year has brought joy and laughter to your families, as it has to the music rooms. Thank you for supporting Music at BMP!
